I have a 2001 Mustang GT Convertible (auto) and I was wondering what a computer would actually do for me. I read on Saleen PCV Flash computers in their catalog and they state that it comes with "performance programming and aggressive horsepower gains" but it doesn't really explain beyond what the computer will do for me.

Does it make the engine run better? Does the car become more reliable as a secondary effect? Will it make any difference at all since I have an automatic?

The biggest change tuners will make is to the A/F ratio by adjusting the fuel tables (leaning and leveling them out, which youll need a dyno to do properly) and advancing the ignition timing. They also do things like disabling the EGR and turning off O2 sensors (for catless exhaust).

For your auto, they can firm up shifts by boosting line pressure or adjusting torque modulation, as well as adjusting shift points for optimum acceleration. Also good for reprogramming the computer for steeper gears and different tire sizes.

I have and recommend the diablo predator flash tuner.. many people like the SCT software but i havent dealt with it.
