If I just wanted to replace the current mufflers with a pair of Flowmasters (40 Series Delta Flow) The reason I ask is that the indiviual who owned the vehicle just before they sold it (91 LX 5.0 vert) had just replaced the exhaust so it's basically brand new, but it has the stock style exhaust on it, stainless tips. I hate tearing a brand new exhaust kit off, but will I be better off if I just go with a whole catback system?

Are the mufflers removeable? or are they welded in? If they are slip fit with clamps that would make them much easier to replace. Is the cat-back 2.25" like stock? or 2.5"?

A muffler shop should be able to easily weld in a new pair of mufflers

I'll have to look, I thought theu could just clamp the new mufflers on, but I went to a muffler shop the other day,, and they quoted me for the whole catback system like $395, so I was kindof like OK, I did not want to look stupid and ask that question to the shop guys, I almost certain it's just the 2.25 stock set up

Just buy the mufflers yourself and ask for a quote to have them welded in. Should be less than $100..closer to $50-60 or so

Do you guys think the sound will not be up to par with the stock set up?

The sound difference will probably not be noticeable between 2.25" and 2.5", but the flows should sound a lot better than the stock style mufflers you have. It will still be relatively quiet though with the stock, or any catted h-pipe.
