what will this make my 89 mustang sound like?

I've had the exact same setup, it sounds great. It'll sound even better with an X pipe IMO. The headers will eventually rust, but that's typical of Mac headers. That's about what i paid for all that about 5 years ago.

You could just get a set of long tubes and get an exhaust shop to weld a custom one for you. Does anybody else like the sound pro-chamber h-pipe? Made my 87 notch sound good :D.

It's going to loud now, and in a few years when it all falls apart it's going to be extremely loud.

It's too much money for low quality parts.
The first time you have to change the header gasket, it's going to be a nightmare to put back together.
Full flange headers only.

As someone that has learned a handful of exhaust lessons, use high quality components only.

The mac headers warping arent actually that much of a hassle. if you even have one ounce of testosterone in you, you can bolt one flange on, and maneuver the others into place. I dont think a whole MAC exhaust setup is a bad quality option, I think it would be a pretty decent setup, but for 800 bucks its pretty steep. I would look for used parts.

The warping issue is more with shorties than full lengths, because full lengths have enough flex in them so you can pull the primaries around it line them up. Ive had mine on and off so many times i lost count and theyre never too hard to get back on. Also i have a friend with a Mac catback thats 11 years old and isnt rusted or falling apart, granted it isnt on a daily driver but it has held up well.

You guys saying that's too much money, exactly what do you expect to get for that much? It's been a long time since i priced exhaust parts but the last i checked the catback was like ~$300, headers were about $350, and midpipes were ~$200 so in the neighborhood of $800 for all that is about the going rate. Piece together a complete exhaust from the engine back with better components for cheaper, and i'll be impressed. My Magnaflow catback ALONE comes in at $450, and you can easily pay that much and more for good stainless full length headers. You can have well over $1k into exhaust very easily so $800 is pretty reasonable for all you get.

85ss i k now what your saying, that I dont know what else you expect for that much, but I just think its way too much money. I could never see myself spending 800 bucks for an exhaust, being on a budget at least. If I had money coming from everywhere I would. I bought a set of MAC longtubes on corral for 110, bought a new VRS xpipe for 160, and made my own catback with bullet mufflers I had laying around, some pieces of pipe and a 100 dollar welder.

Oh i agree, it's a steep price just for exhaust, i'm just saying as far as buying all new stuff, it's not bad compared to the stuff that people will say is better than Mac. I guess in a way i'm sticking up for Mac, because they've supported my engine for about 8 years now and even though the headers look like crap, they still do what they're designed to do. Yeah, if i had the money i would definitely buy something else, but that doesn't necessarily say anything bad about mac, but more about spending wisely and making your car budget stretch further.

I bought all mine with tax refund money and i got my Magnaflow catback used with 2k miles on it for $50 LOL.

Look if you daily drive or drive your car alot, economize by spending more on better quality.

Cheap exhaust kits like mac makes get eaten from the inside in the bends, the mandrel bending machine stretches the pipe thin in the turns.

If you like your car and are going to keep it for a long time, sensible thing to do is buy a section at a time, starting with the catback. Stainless preferred, you will never have trouble getting it apart or with it rusting to pieces.

Everyone here knows i'm a huge bassani fan, no it's not cheap, but it's for life. I've yet to hear of a single person that's ever killed even the bassani bx catback, which is the cheap non stainless version.

My offroad bassani SS x was indestructable, so where the headers.

I'm not saying only use bassani, it's just that other than kooks it's the only stuff i can attest to the quality of first hand.
Explore other options, just do your car a favor and don't go cheap.

Oh, almost forget, ford racing shorties are pretty good too.

wow! im overwhelmed with the responses. thanks
honestly i dont know much about the mechanics of cars im more of a appearence guy(auto body)... i just bought an 89 convertible gt and i want to put some money into it and make it a head turner. i watched some videos on youtube and i liked the way the mac setup sounded, i guess its pretty much what i based it on(sound over quality).
if i can find something that has a bad ass rumble and is top quality than i would defenitly go the route.
if someone could suggest a setup that sounds loud and is top of the line, i would be happy.

thanks

I've heard them all.
Most sound good in their own way.
And while everyone has their favorite, your ears get used to the new sound in a couple days regardless.
The deep sound that people love is usually a product of using an offroad x or h pipe, which again people will debate, but honestly as someone that has used them both the difference is minimal.

For now you want a good sound, forget the headers and just an offroad x or h and a good catback.
