What would cause E-Fan connector to melt?

Hey guys-

I was wondering what would cause an electrical fan mk8 fan female connector to melt on the high side prong,.......
On the mk8 fan it has the white female connector and the plug is the male.... The plug that gets connected to the fan was starting to melt, Not good.

P.S. I was having problems witht he fan working intermittently on friday, Until i placed a tieback on the bicth-It was all good, But i ordered a new MK8 fan and connector-Just wondeirng, what would cause this...

Thanks 4 the reply. I most deifnitely had a loose connection on friday, But it wasnt the male plug, That was on with the safety platsic clip and all. it seemed to be the female connector on the fan itself. because-When the car ran hot, and i stopped and pulled over, The fan wasnt running, I checked the connector and moved it around-and it worked, stopped, worked and went back on again. I seen small little electrical sparks. I let it cool off for a whiel and then swicthed the fan on-manually-with the saftey swicth and puyt the tie back on-and bammmmmmmmmmmmmmmm-It was on working normally.
I got myself home, and ordered a new mk8 fan and connector. Let me aks you this though-=
if its high amps-what can you do to improve the flow, I mean-Im running 8 gauge wire already, although the mk8 fan plug, seems to have abou 10-12 gauge wire, so the 8 connects to the 10-12. I dont like that-But there is nothign i can do to chnage it. Whatta ya htink???
