like the thread titles says, a pi intake and cams swap with a supercharger? or going with a full pi swap and nitrous? or an all motor setup with a full pi swap but more along the lines of patriot heads and some cams to match?

Without upgrading your engine interals, I'd go with the PI swap and Nitrous. It's gonna give you more power than the N/A set up and be easier on your engine than the Supercharged set up. Not to mention it'll be the easiest on your wallet.

hmmm, well after searching the threads i've suddenly started to want a s/c setup. i'm planning on having a pi intake and cams in by the end of this year so a s/c is at least a year or so away. would it be worth it to upgrade the internals, p&p the heads, and rebuild the bottom end before the blower? or are there other options i should look at (new block, pi motor)? basically my goals are to have a 375-400hp at crank setup with a blower? the mods won't happen all at once, but i'd like to keep the costs to a minimal.

Absolutely it’s worth while to upgrade the engine internals and have the heads PnP’d before the blower. Truthfully though, if 375-400 flywheel horsepower is all you’re looking for, then you’ll easily see that with stock untouched PI heads and about a 7 psi centrifugal set up. And at that low of a horsepower level with the centrifugal huffer, it’s not even really necessary to forge the internal components.

Now….that being said, if you were to beef up the bottom end and add a set of PnP heads, you could take that blower set ups potential into the 500-550 flywheel horsepower level, with very little hassle. If your satisfied with your projected power levels, then you should do well with just a blower and nothing else, but if you’re willing to spend the money on toughening up the engine and adding ported heads, then the sky is nearly the limit.

when you say i'll be able to hit 400hp flywheel with the blower is that with the pi intake and cams? also at these power levels with the stock internals should the car be fine as a daily driver?

EDIT: should i also plan to downgrade to some 3.73's since they seem more ideal for a blower setup? i know the 4.10's will help me reach my powerband a lot faster, but wouldn't traction be horrendous?

Naaaa, for 400 flywheel horsepower, you won't even need to upgrade to the PI intake and Cams. Just the kit alone should get you to that goal.....althoug the PI intake is a good idea.

At these power levels, the car would be great as a daily driver and keep your 4.10's right where they are. They'll work great with a 7-8psi centi and 400 hp at the flywheel.

I would definitely go the supercharger route instead of the NOS. Refilling that bottle will get expensive.
But let's look at the long term goal. The supercharger, which you are sure you are going to get. You want to get parts that are going to be compatible with the blower, stay away from getting parts that you want to buy now, but will not have any use for or will have to be taken off to accomodate the blower. For instance, I saw that you are planning on getting a UPR X-pipe. Hold off on that because LTs work better with a blower and if you get LTs, you will have to get rid of the UPR to get a shorter mid pipe. As a matter of fact, get the LTs and the mid-pipe now. Go ahead and get a 75TB now, instead of getting a 70TB. Don't get a CAI because you only gain a little if no HP, because you are going to have to take it off when you get the blower.
I would go ahead and also get the blower cam now. It will only give you about 20-25HP now, but when you get the blower it's really going to shine. Porting the heads is of course going to give you some HP now and will flow like hell with the blower. I would forge the bottom end also, but not if you don't want to make more than about 400-450HP. Believe me, you are not going to be satisfied with that power level for long. You are going to want to go faster eventually and you will have the confidence to know that all you have to do is up the ante on the blower, and your forged bottem end can handle it. A couple of run-ins with some bad ass Cobras or muscled up Camaros and Vettes, you will definitely up the ante on your 7-9psi blower.
Whatever you do, make it fast . Good Luck and keep us posted.

If you plan on racing every week or even everyday (if your a street racer) go with the blower. If you plan on racing once or maybe twice a month, go with nitrous.

well i'm really intent on going with a blower setup pretty much just because thats what i want. other than that i'm going to stick with the upr x-pipe just because i have to swap in the stock h for smog so i'll just get some nice flowing shorties. anyways, is the consensus to stick with the 4.10s? is there any point in a blower setup in which lower gears would be ideal?

Ok here is my 2 cents get another motor (maybe junkyard or something) start building it up as funds allow with the intetions of it been a badda$$ blower motor. Like others have said once you get the boost you'll more than likely want more. Save up get the blower. Then drop the whole thing in get it tuned and go a hunting. It'll be like a whole new car.
As far as lower gears than 4.10's depends if your having to shift just before the light then yeah maybe a smaller gear but if it's just a street toy I'd keep 4.10's. Or maybe on a positive disp. blower KB, FRPP, etc a smaller gear might be better.

If it were some sort of Positive Displacement blower, then gearing back wouldn't be a bad idea, but Centrifugal blowers at moderate PSI levels still need the low gears to thrive. The lower gears will get you into optimum boost levels that much quicker so don't be afraid to leave them in.

so what type of blower works best on the 96-98 4.6 2v? i see a lot of 99+ owners going with kenne bell, so should that be a viable option for me as well. i try to take my car to the track at least once a week, but i wouldn't mind having some nice boost on the freeway and on the streets.

stock internals you can have a safe tune with 350-380 rwhp and the 4.10s will make it fun. You can always go down after the install if needed.
I don't know if I saw how much money you want to spend but you will have
$ 5000.00 or close with SC install/ tune. Check out Modular Powerhouse, you will be happy.

well i don't really have a budget, but would like to meet my goals with as little as possible. are there any advantages with going with lower gears on a s/c setup? a lot of people tell me with the blower and 3.73's i'll see better times at the track.
