I am looking into getting a Fox body mustang, possibly a convertible. Any year advise or things to watch out for?

Friend said to get a 89+ because of the MAF.

Thanks..

89 is the best year IMO......MAF, no airbags, better looking steering wheel and I believe the block had a good amount of nickle in it?

Things to look for:

Torque boxes bent or sloppy
Trac lock grabs
Ash tray door
Door handles
Window mouldings
Power window actuators\Power locks

haha i think thats so funny everytime someone says that just because mine works perfectly and because so many are broken. yeah also if you plan on putting beefier tires and rims up front then look for a 90?-91? up they wheel wells are bigger. also get an LX if possible if you look around you will see they look so much better than GT's unless you don't get the Rear bumper "sag" that normally occurs on the rear bumpers.

but yeah just look under neath for rust and good stong torque boxes thats a major no no if they're bad.

'89 is the best year, forged slugs + A9L is the perfect starting point. When I did my head swap I could still see the crosshatch marks in the cylinders even at 90K miles

Wind my 93 up next to ANY stock 79-93 and I'll show you why I like those hyperchits

Out of every mustang I've had, that 93 winds faster. I guess it's because the pistons are lighter and it's a notch.

Well lets see...
88 cali and 89+ have mass air
90+ have stronger t-5’s
91?+ have larger wheel wheels for larger tires

I can’t remember off the top of my head what years had the better K member though (other than SVO’s)

There is no sig weight difference between the factory hyper pistons and forged pistons

If you want to talk stock to stock the 87-88 SD cars are usaly faster because their maps and ever so slightly better cam

1993 for sure. Its got the pony rims. The good interior(seats, steering wheel, cd player), bigger wheel wells, Its the newest fox body you can buy. So most are in better shape then the other years.

So basically a 89 is the one to get . I'll look for one of those, probably a convertible, maybe a hatch.

87 is the best year. A stock speed density car will beat up on a stock 89 car.
