what years did ford make fox body cobras??

I am aware of the 93 cobras (I am wishing for one of those). But I am looking at buying one, just want to educate myself on the production years and numbers. ALso what makes the cobra a cobra? And what to look for? Want to make sure I am not getting a clone. I really really want a 93 tho. Might be selling my drop for one...dunno yet.

As always any insight is appreciated.

1993 was the only year. I'll try and name some but I can't remember them all. GT-40 heads (iron), Cobra intake, 1.7 roller rockers, slightly different camshaft, 17x7 wheels, rear disc brakes, Cobra body kit, Snake symbols where 5.0 badges would go, Stronger T-5, 3.08 gears (standard). I can't remember anything else.

gt40 irons have 4 lines on the heads. hmm someone would have to post a picture.

Also 93 cobras only came in three colors. Red, Black and Teal. All 5 speeds no Autos. Cobra wing, and rear tail lights are different. They are like the 86 gts but with black pinstripes.

As the question is asked "what years did ford make fox body cobras?? ", 1993 is not the only year. I know what he is looking for, but you cannot say that 1993 was the only year for a Cobra. !993 was the only Fox year for an SVT Cobra.

1979

There was also the 83-86 Predator Cobra.

wow PuterIam....great info. That predator is bad-azz. Id love to have one of those. But with only 8 made I think my chances are slim. Going to ask this one dude that is selling one if he would send me pics of the engine bay, interior and vin number. Thanks guys. keep it coming if you got more...

I think they made 4993 or 4997 of them the "d" code of the vin is the 8th letter. It represents it's an "svt". I've never seen or heard one with cloth, though I'm sure they made them as previous post states. Also I think they all came with sun roofs. (This is probably all covered in the links.)
The body kit consists of different tail lights, wing, side panels, and front bumper. (had a pony, not a ford embled.)
Converting a 5.0 into a cobra would probably not be cost effective enough to turn a profit, I would think it would cost someone more money to do this than to be a true 93 cobra. (unless you got a wrecked one for real cheap) Also you can call ford svt @ I think. 1-800-svt-ford and fax your title to them and they will send you a certificate stating your car is # of 499*. I had a 93 cobra about 5 years ago I picked up for under 11 K, Would be hard pressed to do the same today. Sweet cars, good luck to you.

1993 was the only fox body cobra. I have a black w/gray interior 93. The car is very nice and only has 40,000 orginal mile. I screwed up and turn my car into a drag car. Here is a pic

Actually 4 Colors were available as 2 Reds came on the car. Vibrant Red was the majority and only 4 or 5 cars came in a different Red.

Please bear in mind that the early Cobras were NOTHING like the 93 SVT cars. The 79 you're looking at is just a trim package. The early Cobras were the top of the Mustang line before they restarted using the GT designation. In Canada, the later US-spec GT's were called Cobras. Ford did this to preserve copyright on the Cobra nameplate while it wasn't being used here. That's why a lot of US GT's have titles that list them as "Cobra/GT". The 93's are the "special" Cobras. The engines were handbuilt on the niche engine line. They were individually numbered. They only came in the above listed colors. They only had three options: Sunroof, leather interior and cruise control. If you want a Cobra, you want a 93.
