I could never Figure out why Ford chose to only paint a few cars a different Red unless they had some extra paint laying around and wanted to get rid of it. I too think they are probably worth a ton if the owners know what they have.

I'd go for one of the 79 to 80 Cobras in a second.

I think they are either 5.0 or 2.3 turbos. While they are not performers like the later ones, they are neat. I particularly like the front spoiler, and am looking for one.....

In Canada, the later US-spec GT's were called Cobras. Ford did this to preserve copyright on the Cobra nameplate while it wasn't being used here. That's why a lot of US GT's have titles that list them as "Cobra/GT".

Also 93 cobras only came in three colors. Red, Black and Teal. All 5 speeds no Autos. Cobra wing, and rear tail lights are different. They are like the 86 gts but with black pinstripes.

just to add to that.. they came in to different reds

Webshot, definitely check out that '79 Cobra! There were only 7,000 of them produced that year. Also, becuase they are now 26 years old, there's not too many left. If you buy it, you'll have something that you probably won't see again in person (mine is the only one that I've seen in person.) Check the bucktag (on the radiator support) for the CBR or COBRA stamp. That's how you'll know if it's an original one. They came with either the 2.3 liter Turbo 4-cylinder (4-speed only) or the 5.0 (automatic only.) While they don't perform like a '93, they can perform when built. I've got mine running 12.40's now. Here's a pic.

I believe the original question was "what years did ford make fox body cobras??"
Altho I can understand and appreciate the fact that your 93 is an SVT product and the others are not, that does not negate the fact that they were still Fox bodied Cobras. As for the early (79-81) cars being just stickers as compared to the standard 'stang of the day....(The 79 you're looking at is just a trim package. The early Cobras were the top of the Mustang line before they restarted using the GT designation. wythors"
If you recall the performance market of the late '70s-early '80s, that was about all you got out of the performance version of anything. The Cobra, with its 132hp 2.3 turbocharged four-cylinder or a 140hp 5.0 V-8 with a two-barrel carburetor was a thumpin machine compared to the standard 2.3 at 88 hp, the 2.8 109 hp or the later 4.2 V-8 pushing 115 hp. Plus it came with a sport-tuned exhaust system, which I'm sure was a huge performance boost. If I remember right the Cobra was not the top of the line, That honor went to the Ghia. Cobras only accounted for wayyyyyy less than 1 percent of Mustang sales in '79
Altho anemic by todays standards, they were still called Cobras and are as easy to make as fast as any other Fox bodied 4 banger or weezer v-8car. engine swap.

I have to agree here. There's a lot of ignorance in the Mustang community when it comes to "authenticating" their 'stangs, usually at the expense of another's. I've seen many posts from many different people that suggest that the '79-'81 Cobra's weren't "REAL Cobra's". Well, WTF does that mean? Mine says CBR on the bucktag, so as far as I'm concerned, it is a Cobra. If you want to see a REAL Cobra, check out Carrol Shelby's originals. Those were the real Cobras and no other Cobra compares in terms of looks or performance.

Many people are under the assumption that the '79-'81 Cobras were just a "sticker package". Well, they weren't. They also got the BRAND NEW TRX suspension system, the BRAND NEW Turbocharged engine, aluminum rear brake drums, 8,000 RPM Tach (Turbo model only) and those "stickers". Remember, this was cutting edge to the Mustang in '79. In 1980-1981, the Cobra got the front airdam with foglights, the rear spoiler and the cowl induction scoop (ala Pace Car.) Because of the energy crisis, the 302 was dropped down to the 255 in 1980 and I believe, wasn't even available in 1981.

I agree that the SVT Cobra is a one of a kind type of vehicle but I will not be swayed that it's the only Cobra that was ever produced on the Fox Body platform. Whether or not it was an optional package ('79-'81) or an actual different model altogether ('93) makes no difference to me.

Before all the bashing begins, let me just say that I LOVE the '93 Cobras and wish to own one someday.

Hissing is correct. I wanted to know what years cobras were made period. 79-93. While my main goal is a 93 cobra. I appreciate all the other info, which lead to me finding a 79 cobra roller. Which I know is not fast from production. But it would be cool to own a rare pony. SO I may buy it. But yes my main goal is a 93 cobra.

The info is appreciated
