I need to clean my engine up a bit...mostly the lower end and aluminum components. Last time i did it i used the Gunk stuff in the orange can. It did an awesome job as i basically sprayed it on and all the dirt and grime just flowed away....however it had a STRONG aftersmell that wouldn't go away for weeks.

Simple green is too weak.

Any suggestions?

pressure washer, water dosent smell, be easy around seals and electrical stuff, and it works better then any degreaser

Simple green is too weak? Make sure to watch your paint when you wash harsher stuff off then

are you sure youre getting the concentrated bottles of simple green?


i cant see how simple green at full strength is weak!

Just gotta get your hands dirty while using the simple green. Spray it on, let it sit and then scrub on the bad spots.

I can't stand the scent of alot of cleaners

Use SG like everyone said, but try it when the motor's still warm (NOT hot).

i use meguiars hot rims cleaner, like said use when warm, let sit , wash away

Simple green is strong...but that GUNK Engine degreaser is just MUCH stronger. When i do oil changes i spray the underside of the engine when done and the oil and grease just POURS off.

Downside is it has a strong aftersmell that you smell when the engine gets hot. Luckly doing just the undercarriage doesn't make it smell, but if you do the top end it tends to come in the vents with the A/C on and STINK.

I'm looking for something that will clean up the aluminum on the engine. I don't mind scrubbing..that's assumed, but just want something strong that won't smell when i turn the A/C on.

I wonder if using SG on the areas you've cleaned with Gunk would clean off most or all of the Gunk and reduce or eliminate the smell?

Black Magic engine shine. Nothing else has shiny stuff in it for the hoses and such.

Although CD2 isn't a degreaser. I had to use SG before it. CD2 did an amazing job on detailing, but I really needed to degrease the motor first.

I ended up using simply green concentrated. it did a good job. I got in there and scrubbed and my engine actually looks bright and new again.

Might pick up some CD2 next

I think simple green is no toxic too. All that water running down the driveway goes right back into our drinking water.

I have Automotive Simple Green concentrate. I'm not sure how different it is from the regular stuff, but it works pretty well.

Purple power works wonders! Just becareful not to let it sit on paint and plastic. Can stain it and you will have to buff it off.

Any pics of your 2003? Interested . . .
