The other day I noticed that my right rear brake was making a grinding noise. I decided to put the car on jack stands and to figure out what exactly was making the noise. I notice there was also a slight noise coming from the left side as well at this point. At first I thought I had warped the rotor because I have taken the car autocrossing acouple of times and the drag strip acouple of times within the last couple months. I took the rotors off and they seem fine. I ran the car in gear and the axel was still wobbling with the rotors and calipers off. I opened the rear diff. to examine the gears and everything checked out in there. It doesnt make a grinding noise like a wheel bearing so I dont know what to atribute the wobble too. Is it possible I bent the axel at the track? and what are the chances I bent both? any info would be helpful, thanks guys.

you could always pull an axle and measure to see if it is bent. that is one nice thing about the 8.8", it isn't hard to pull an axle.

How old are the tires? What is their condition?

Any number of things could cause this.

tires are at about half tread life. I did rotate front to back after my first trip to the track. I wouldnt think it would be a balancing issue considering the axel still wobbles with the wheel and rotor off.

I had a similar issue, and as the tire wore down I was able to see a flat spot. Apparently a belt had broke.

Did you check the wheel bearings?
