What's needed to use a 4cyl t5 with a v8?

So which is it? Ranger or an svo bearing? 85SS, have you done this swap before because I was wondering how you knew.... So the throwout bearing is the only thing needed to swap them. And I'm assuming I need the bearing for a 2.3 ranger? Does it matter if it's 2 or 4wd because I know advance auto will ask......

thanks,

Matt

Actually i think it's the pilot bearing for the Ranger, and i'd assume it doesnt matter if it's 2 or 4 as long as it's the 5 speed. I've actually never done this but i have a friend who did.

I'm going to put my 2 cents worth in on this one again. If a 5.0 has problems blowing the T5 designed for the v8, what makes you think a T5 designed for the 4 banger (having nearly 20% less torque capacity) is not going to have the same problems or worse? <- Just some advice if something should ever give and so those that do it cannot say that no one ever told them so.

With that in mind the bearing inside the engine (back of the crankshaft) that supports the input shaft of the transmission is generically called the pilot bearing - like charles was saying. I'm also told the pilot bearing from an early/mid ranger or mazda B-series works fine. I'm not much on the subject but I do know the O.D. of the input shaft is in fact smaller on the 4 cyl. Not sure on the TOB though.

Hey 87 gt, I was only needing to use the 4cyl tranny for a couple months until I buy a new world class t5. That's why I was asking. I just wanted to get the car up and running now to get any bugs out of the new motor. I know I couldn't powershift it or run slicks on the 4cyl tranny.

Cool, that's no problem them. It's those that think that they can get away with the 4 banger and drive it like anyone with a v8 car will that makes the idea catch up to them. As long as you drive like you are going for gas mileage you'll be fine.
