Whats the best CAI?

Well, pretty much which ever one you things looks the best. All CAI are about the same hp wise. I would just stay away from any that have a metal tube, Like BBK, those tend to heat up more than a platic tube say like the K&N FIPK kit.

I like my MAC, It was a fenderwell style, but I "customized" it. If I was to buy
another I would get the K&N. But I'm sure someone will say CAI's are worthless.

+1

A search will reveal threads about this. JLT and the K&N FIPK seem to be the most popular (and probably most effective). IMHO just drop in a K&N filter and remove the silencer for an effective and very cheap "CAI".

Before I knew how to use the search function, and also before I knew where to find good prices on car parts, I bought a K&N FIPK as my first mod for over $200 from Autozone. It didn't do much by the SOTP meter but it makes a sucking air noise that I thought was cool. All the NA mods will add up and a CAI isn't bad if your planning on doing other things besides the CAI. I recently bought the big air kit, along with a blower, from KB so I have my old K&N sitting around. Shoot me a PM if interested and I'll get you pics. I've been meaning to put it in the classifieds, along with my other N/A stuff, but I'm lazy.

I do not have a CAI. I used to have a K&N filter but got rid of it and just use paper and change it often.

I have seen decent dyno results with the K&N FIPK. 4-5hp may be had. Basically using a CAI as a HP mod is a ricer fable. Get what looks good unless you really want that 4-5hp, go with the K&N FIPK.

i have the mac f/w cai , I can realy feel the diference when its cold out side, the car feels realy peppy! BUT its a real pita to remove and re-install the filter for cleaning!!

don't overlook the demolet tuneable induction,I gained over1 lb of boost over a mac cai(fenderwell). cai's do make a difference if you plan to add a power-adder

Yep, thats why I changed mine to be on the inside. The tube doesnt really get
hot until your not driving. Also I put a shield to block the heat from the radiator hose. And your right its better when its cold outside.

Not all CAI's are created equal.......it really depends on your application......if you are just looking for 1 or 2 bolt ons then ay intake is an improvement over stock........I use the AFM N/A Power Pipe and have amazing results! My car is a full bolt on with heads and cams and put down 295/295 through an auto......with the stock long block I put out 260 and 304 and ran in the mid 12's on full rims...it the tuning of all the parts together that make a difference.....if you want to stay N/A then buy all the little parts with weight reduction parts helping the most......other wise get a blower.........I can beat about 60-70 % of the blower cars I encounter in N/A form but the car weighs 3100 with me in it..........N/A is fun and I am still makeing it better with each mod.......just need to find the path you want to go and stick with it!

I went with a $30 job from ebay and I can attest that id did help my top end trap speed. A few years back i was around 99-100 in the 1/4. I slapped on a cheapie fenderwell CAI and was consistently around 102mph. My times werent much different because i cant drive, but it added 2mph to my trap all day long. Maybe it was the air temp, who knows.

For something that adds 3hp, you can either spend 30 on ebay or buy a plastic K&N one for 300+. I wasn't falling for it.

edit: "AM Racing CAI" in my sig is just a fake company my friend and i made up. Its just a sticker, dont go look for one
