I'm thinking about my options for doing the exhaust on my 94 Cobra and a couple of people have said I should do side exit exhaust. I think if I got the right mufflers and the right side skirts it would be pretty nasty. What I was thinking was....maybe getting a couple of 40 series Flowmaster mufflers and taking them to an exhaust shop and having the rest of the exhaust custom made. Just to save some money, I would probably keep the stock cats, and just go back from there.

Does anyone have any advice for the best way to do side exit exhaust? What would the best mufflers be for a 94 Cobra? Should I just spend $650 and get the Borla kit off of Ford Racing? Should I just have the exhaust custom made at an exhaust shop?

Thanks in advance.

Just get the kit. I know cause I already tried it. I have the flow path(very similar to FM) and took it to the shop so they could custom bend the piping and it ended up sounding like ass. To me, it sounded like a camaro. Too many bends in such a short distance. Wasn't worthethe hassle to me. I'm not sure it this will work, but try it with a straight thru muffler, that way it'll only be one bend to the outside.

I second just getting the Borla kit if you are going to do it. Coming from manufacturing, if grade of materials is equivalent, mass produced is almost always cheaper than custom. I did however cut off the Borla tips as I didn't care for the dual cylinder look and I had the shop weld on a single wide oval to fit within the side skirt opening. Here's a pic.....

These pics suck (you can't really see the skirts cause of the glare) - but....here you go:

I'm not gonna lie though - the job as a whole SUCKED.

Borla's kit isn't bolt on and go. I had to get one of the side pipes bent to fit up into the exit hole.

The skirts are horrible - I had to get them custom cut, painted, grind down the front - and have to fill in the small space - but the pro is that the kit looks badass - I love the skirts.

I don't now if I'm too keen on my exhaust coming out a bit, but its growing on me - I kind of liked Rio's where the tips just came to the edge of the hole, and not past it. I'm sure he'll post pics and you'll know what I mean.

AS FOR BUYING:

Don't pay more than 600 shipped for the kit. I got it from Borla on clearance and I believe ford should match that price since it's no longer continued. (it's still under warranty though)

If you don't like the skirts I know Cervini's makes them pretty much the same without the "SVO" badging, and they're urethane so they're much easier to work with.

Good luck!

Oh and one more thing - if you want to do custom tips like above that's not a bad idea, borla sounds awesome without the tips on, with them on they're a bit quieter - you can always make custom tips instead of dual and they will sound sick.

I'm seen people use the Dynomax Bullet mufflers placed up closer to the headers so they make one 90* bend and exhaust where the kit would.

I'm not sure, I've just seen pictures of the setup, never heard it in person.

YES I get to do a little pic whoring lol. here are a few pics of mine. Tripleblack is right, the kit isn't exactly easy to install, but the results outweigh the problems. (pics are a couple months old or so, I've painted the mirrors to match since then)

There was a fox in the 5.0 section that put the bullet mufflers up right after the headers...then put the x-pipe on AFTER the mufflers and ran the pipes to the sides. It SCREAMED and made for a pretty loud car.

Let me see if i have his clip on my computer still....

Ya, that is the exact kit I want. How much did you pay for it? Where did you order it from? How does it sound?
