I was coming home one night in my 66 and went over some railroad tracks. I hit a hole on the other side and went off the road, ripping the exhaust out from under the car. Put it back up with coat hangers until I got home.

bought a fox body..j/k my shrader valve got lost so when i took off my n2o kit i used a huge 3 inch long bolt to fill the void..its still in there even after my 347 swap...lol..my mechanic just laughes at me...ohh and my o2 sensor broke so i filled the whole that was left in the sensor with ultra copper sealant..just replaced it after 5 monthes. and finally i have a piece of cardboard box assiting my pass headlamp from pointing at the ground

I used that bungee strap on the battery trick back in the 70's on a Camaro I owned. I also used a wire hangar to hold up muffler when hangar strap broke

I used a sock for an air cleaner once when I dropped my cone filter in a puddle while cleaning the maf, and had to get going for a job interview. As hack as I ever got on the mustang.

Pinched off rear brake lines on my old rusty '81 bronco when they started to leak; just drove around without rear brakes until I finally scrapped it (I literally just left two small pairs of vise-grips clamped on). The same vehicle had a choke cable that I made out of some fencing wire, a plexiglass rear window held in with plywood blocks, and a passenger door handle that I fence-wired back to the door because it pulled out of the door due to rust.

Also, whenever it got down on oil, I'd just add some drain oil that we had laying around at my dad's place.

Only scrapped it because the front brake lines finally rotted out too.

I miss owning vehicles that I don't care about/want to die.

I had a 88 VW gti that spun a rod bearing ,I dropped the pan and replaced the bearing with a .10 under bearing after sanding the **** out of the journal with emry cloth, suprisingly it ran another 40k fine , i wood crack up everyday i drove that piece of crap lol

On my old 70 Nova the positive battery wire wore down to the wire and melted through the right front brake line, caused a good fire, stood there and watched it for about 5 minutes and decided I still like the car so I put it out, after the fire wwas out I decided I wanted to go somewhere so I just pinched the passenger front brake line closed, drove good for about 10 minutes, then almost wrecked with no brakes, I was about 10 miles from home so I drove home with my left foor on the e brake and my left hand was holding the e brake released so It wouldn't lock up on me, first time I ever seen glowing rear brakes , I also used a metal coat hanger to weld on my super turbos, and the rear seat was trashed so I removed the seat and redone the upholstery with a hunter green blanket I had. All on the same car.

I love the shoe string for running the waterpump....

I currently have a Poland Spring bottle as my coolant overflow since I got rid of the shroud with the electric fan. The biggest ghetto rig I did was while me and my friends were offroading with my quad, we were doing donuts in his truck and the radiator started pissing coolant out from a rock off the fan I assume. Fixed the radiator tube with vice grips by cutting the tube and pinching and folding over the cut ends of the tube.(we tried JB weld and that metallic radiator stuff first and it didnt work) It worked for YEARS until my friend finally blew the Jeep comanchee's 2.8L up. I did the same with my mom's honda with great results. With the same truck we did an axle swap after blowing the spider gears TWICE from just doing burnouts haha, the new axle didn't have the right brakes so we/him just folded over the main rear brake lines and vice gripped it and kept it on there. You could see it flopping around if you were driving behind him. umm wrapped my trunk striker with electrical tape. While changing my lifters with the world heads on it 4 of the corner lifters almost came out so I took a file and grinded away some of the head so I didn't have to pull the heads. Fixed the inner core silencer that goes inside the muffler on my dirtbike that a bolt is supposed to go in the hole and keep it from coming out. I used a keyring in the hole and ran it like that for a while. I know there's more.

I've seen more from others than rigs I've done myself... honest

One was a Dodge Dakota truck. The hood latch was busted (people kept stealing the battery) so the guy punched a hole in the hood and ran a chain and padlock through it.

My buddy (back in the 80s) had a '72 Vega. I guess 2/3 of the bellhousing bolts had come out/lost them whatever, but he had a pair of Vice-Grips clamped on the driver's side holding the motor and tranny together.

I was a mechanic for a while, saw some goodies. One was a Dodge Omni, no ignition switch, just a household light switch zip-tied to the dash.

I had a 79 Plymouth arrow and duct tape was it's best friend. It was rusted to crap but it hauled my wife and newborn everywhere till today it's not mine but I see it around still going.

My bro's integra was knocking, so i pulled the head. one of the valves was hitting the piston, but the valve was tight. He wanted to get it running the night, so I drilled the piston to make room for the valve. it ran fine for about a month till the rod bearing went completely...

This is almost like the 84 Caprice station wagon I bought years ago. The headlight switch was broken, so there was a household light switch under the hood to turn them on and off.

I had a crown vic for a while that I started with a screwdriver. Bolted a U-bolt to the decklid to lock my bike/bike rack to. Used a 2x4 to hold up one of the windows. Once used the hood as a snow sled with 5 people on it, though I don't know if that qualifies as a ghetto rig so much as just stupid, haha.

after the flex fan chucked a blade into my charcoal canister a buddy stuffed a blue shop towel in the hole in the top. that was 10 years ago and its still there!
my heater lines are looped also, F' that thing, i mostly drive it in the summer anyway.
In the winter when i do drive it i use foam backer rod under the front header seal so the wind dont blow in between the top and windshield.

ive never done anything this ghetto. closest thing i can think of was when i went to the street scene grills in my lightning the directions were to remove the factory grill but the center out of mine and placed the SS grill inside of it and drilled holes in it to uses about 100 small black zip ties to hold it in place.
