whats the difference between power shifting and just shifting fast?

yes, i wouldnt do it unless your racing though, no need, it just keeps your RPMs way up during the shift so your right back into the powerband agian

start off like you would, floor it, when its tile to shift nail the clutch and change gears as fast and hard as possible then pop the clutch, but you have to do it all in like a split second......1rst to 2nd is easy, 2nd to 3rd is tricky, and 3rd to 4th is easy, no need to powershift 5th gear

power shifting is shifting without using the clutch. when you let off the gas to shift, you don't bother with pushing in the clutch, and just jam it in gear. If you time it right then you can float it in gear without grinding. I use to do it all the time in my grand am, but I would never try it in my stang.

how to do it right

you got it

powershifting , helpful hint on how to do it right , old school style , when you start to take off in first , do this , grab the shifter while you have the pedal floored , if you have a decent clutch it shouldnt come out of gear as long as you are HARD on the throttle , pull back like you are trying to rip it out of the floor , when you get the revs about 200 to 500 rpms from where you wanna shift , stomp on the clutch pedal has hard and as fast as you can without letting off the gas , keep the gas DOWN , snap the clutch in and out bam bam , dont hesitate with it or you will MISS , your pulling back will pull it into second without even thinking about it , if none of you have been doing this try it tomorrow and let me know how it works for you , some people can do it some cant , seems to be a thing that just comes to you . Do third gear the same way but be very very careful , if you arent sure about your skills dont do it , ive seen to many people that thought they could drive a car slam one back into first , done it myself when i was mad at my girl , isnt good on the car , just push up and over to third while you are accelerating thru second gear , same process , 200 to 500 rpms shy of shift point , BAM in and out with the clutch pedal as fast as you can smack it down with your foot let off , some people side step it sometimes called , they kick it down and slide their foot off the left side of the pedal to make it even quicker , dont do this until you got the basics down of proper power shifting , alot of the older guys wont tell the younger guys how to do this properly because it does give you an edge if the other guy granny shifts or just shifts fast . do fourth the same way , hopefully by then you are smoking the other guy . and DONT LET OFF THE GAS

Good luck

Yup i power shifted at the track all last year and it did finally cost me a clutch. But damn its fun getting sideways in 2nd gear.I wondered to all you guys who do power shift correctly how many rpms do you gain during your shift?I usually gain about 300 i was wondering if that was good or not?Chime in folks.

DO NOT TRY TO SHIFT WITHOUT USING THE CLUTCH. That's a good way to ruin a transmission. Even powershifting (which is matting the gas and just working the clutch) is very hard on a tranny. I don't do it on my car, even at the track. Only do it if you can afford a new clutch/tranny and to have the car down while it gets repaired.

Ive done it so much that i dont gain but at most 100 to 200 rpms because i try to pull the gear shift out of the tranny while im accelerating , and side step the clutch after i stomp on it , some people think ive got an automatic with a hellish shift kit because they never hear any lag between when im racing . hurst shifter, stock clutch 34 K miles , needs new one LOL

I powershift anytime I'm getting on the gas, I can't justify speed shifting for the feel of powershifting. If your really good enough no one can tell if your a auto or stick. Yes it will blow up your stock clutch eventually, I learned to powershift on my old ranger and I mean I musta practiced it everyday a year and half later I finally blew the clutch up. I'm guessing I'll have less clutch life in the stang but I no longer need to practice it only do it now on the track and when I wanna get on it :nice:

That's cunfusing as hell man. I've always wondered how to powershift and people have said different ways. It would take alot of practice. I've tryed it before and it felt like my clutch was slipping.

It's easy as hell.
I nailed it on the first try.
It kicked out the @$$ end when I hit 3rd, and that was on a 03 GT with only a Tri-Ax. (no other mods)
