whats the easiest way to geta crank pulley off

i need one and i went to the JY and i tryed so hard to get it off but i motor would just spin, so is there any way of getting this off with out a impact gun?? oh yea the car is an auto so theres know way of stopping the motor.

I have wrapped an old belt around the crank and used that to hold it before. It is a pain though.
A portable impact would be your best bet and an excuse to buy more tools.

Fill the crankcase and cylinders with concrete


Maybe take the starter off and try to stop the flywheel, I dunno how maybe wedge somthing in there.

Take the pulley off and put a phillips in the bolt hole

bolt hole method works in many applications like this use a craftsman screwdriver (if it breaks its replaced free)

put a piece of rope in one of the spark plug holes so it stops the piston when it is compressed to the top

I usually put the socket on the bolt and then jam a flatblade screwdriver or a small prybar between the socket and the pulley in one of the two notches cut into the pulley. that way you can pull on the prybar in one direction and your ratchet in the other. Works like a charm. You can use a similar technique on engines with a crank damper like a 5.0L by taking the pulley off and then screwing the pulley bolts most of the way back in and using the prybar between two bolts to keep the engine from turning.

That only works on cars you have a battery in. If you're in most scrapyards you're outtta luck and back to doing it the hard way.

yes this yard removes all the batterys
