whats the strongest degreaser out there?

Post up what you think is the strongest degreaser out there thats avaliable at like a local hardware store, paint shop, auto store etc. I'm going to divote my day tomorrow to cleaning my whole car... I'm sick of when I'm working under my car and i reach my hand up to do something and when I pull it down its completly black I need something good for getting mostly oil off. We have this "Purple Stuff", not sure about its real name, but thats the best thing I can think of so far... simple green sucks compaired to this stuff. Anyone else got anything I can try? I've used tire foam (yes tire foam), simple green, and that orange cleaner but none have worked for me... Going to try purple stuff tomorrow but I want to know what else I can try if that stuff doesnt work.

never thought about that, thanks. I was thinking about trying Dawn dish soap actually but that stuff is probably a lot better

Careful what you wish for. We have this Acid based stuff at our shop, and if you leave it on too long it turns all the alumnium a dark gray. Learned the hard way when we 1st got it in and I used it on my old 92'. It's called Powerball.

what will that stuff do to plastic/rubber? I'm not worried about the top of my engine, just underneath is all greasy from an oil leak.

I use formula 88 in a black bottle it's kinda a purple liquid. Works pretty good to me.

I work for an RV place at the washrack. We use a Eagle1 Pro cleaner. It's purple, and really takes nasty ***** off. I don't know where you can get it though.

i work at a printing company an we have some pretty nasty chemcals on the press's for washing up, (one chemical we call birth defect, lol).... can't buy this stuff anywere but i used it on some oil and it litterly ate right through it, i wish i could get some names of the cheicals but they don't say right on the drum that they're in....... i also used some citrus based foam and LET IT SIT then hose it down, seemed to work good

BTW that stuff from work i only tested on some minor places i was afraid of it eating away some stuff under the hood

Purple **** is VERY strong stuff.. I dont think you would want anything stronger, since that shi* eats the skin off your hands, and corodes aluminum like no tomorrow. Simple green works great for me. With any of these cleaners you should scrub the parts down.

For an engine.. Heat it up first. let it sit for 30mins or so, spray it down lightly with the hose ( mist) then just soak the entire engine bay in cleaner.. Scrub the really greasy areas, and your good.

Always worked for me

Yeah, right on the side of the 5 gallon jug of the purple stuff, it says CORROSIVE

I read the msds on it, and it wasn't pretty. I accidently used the degreaser on a horse trailer with an aluminium roof cover (thought it was soap, which is pink). Even steel wool wouldn't take it out.

Just like waxing a car, you want to try to use the least powerful cleaner to get the job done. Don't go straight into the nasty stuff unless absolutely necessary. Needless to say when I use the degreaser, I have goggles and full length rubber gloves on.

Brake Parts cleaner is good, (careful what you spray).

AND although NOT the strongest, those Orange Citrus cleaners are great. I spray them on the Nasty brake dust ridden rims of my wife's Navigator, and it the dust rolls right off.

Simple Green is the ****nit...espically for cleaning the engine bay. You may have to scrub more than the oven cleaner, but it is non toxic (hoorah for your hands) and non corrosive to plastics.

another vote for Simle Green, stuff works great and isnt hell for your hands. Plus it smells alright!

Purple cleaner actually will take the paint right off, in the engine bay,and trunk lid underside, with minimal scrubbing/washing

This isnt going on the top side of my engine...that can just be wiped down and it'll be clean so I dont think the purple stuff will hurt anything. I didnt know it was that strong of stuff.
