I looked over the car in person this morning. The rust seems to be a little more than he described in the auction but not terrible.
Its not too bad around the wheels but there is a spot on the lower part of one of the 1/4 panels that seems a little soft and might need new metal. The hatch seems fixable although the rust does go up onto the seam inside.
The owner started to grind off some of the rust around one of the rear wheels and on the 1/4 under the molding. Its not deep but there is some light pitting. No soft spots around the wheels though.
Most of the rust looks like the spots in this pic (not the car Im looking at): http://carad.ebayimg.com/i10/02/a/08/1a/53/e2_4.JPG
The rest of the body is good and underneath is fine. The motor looks pretty good and sounds good. I didnt drive it because theres no plates or insurance on it. It hasnt been registered for a few years because the owner planned on 'restoring it' (what he told me).
The B&M shifter is installed and just needs to be electrically hooked up (he'll finish that).
Mileage is original and I had a member here run a Carfax on it and it came back clear.
It might need an idle air control unit which he told me was $60 new. He has some other kind of aftermarket idle thing that takes the place of the IAC but its off the car. Some kind of plate with a set screw that you need to set the idle with yourself while the car is running. He took it off because he wanted the computer controlled idle.
The reserve on the auction is $2500. He said he would end the auction for the $2700 I offered (after he said for $2500 he'd let the auction run out) but somebody else wants to look at it and they offered him $3500 without even seeing the car.
