Ok so I just made it back from college been waiting to drive my car for months. Decide to take a trip down to stanford to visit some friends that aren't on break yet, and my car takes a 'Kiss Me''Kiss Me''Kiss Me''Kiss Me' on me. I flipped a u-turn and got on it to test out my brand new Nitto's, and it wouldn't let me out of 1st gear. It was dead stuck in first gear and i tryed putting the clutch in and out to get it out of gear but it wouldn't work. I pulled over to the side of the road and tryed to turn it on. My car WILL start if it's in neutral, but then the shifter can not move into any gear. If i try to start it IN gear, the car lunges forward and everything in my car dims, as well as the headlights. Does anyone have any idea what could be wrong here?? I've never heard of this before and I'm thinking it might be my clutch. But i just put a king cobra in not that long ago. The guys at the shop want to put a whole new kit in but i just wanted to find out what you guys think the problem might be. Thanks! any input is well appreciated!!!

My friend had a similar thing happen to him in his 96 cobra a few months ago.It was so bad that with the shifter in what was supposed to be neutral he still drove it into his garage off the tow truck.Turned out it was some kind of pin in the transmission. Was a pretty simple fix, he thought the tranny was screwed.

It could be the shifter if you have an aftermarket short throw shifter that is lose. Take off the shift boot and take a look. See if the shifter it really putting it in gear and out of gear correctly. If it is then it maybe your clutch...
