Ok I put in a new clutch about 4 months ago and since then it has worked great, smooth to get in and out of gears no problems what so ever. Now suddenly i have a bout 3 inches of play in the pedal and i have to push it hard to the floor and strugle to push it into gear. Any ideas? I havnt really been hard on the clutch it couldnt be worn out already.

did you remember to put the retaining clip on the clutch fork?? if it comes to it you might just have to get a firewall clutch adjuster...which i would recomend anyhow.

Lift your pedal up as high as it will go to see if the auto-adjusting ratchet popped loose - it's nylon so it happens.

Could be your cable has stretched (but that's quite sudden).

Those firewall adjusters are nice, I use one too, but I'd check under the car to make sure everything is sound, check the pedal auto adjust, and go from there.

Get a firewall clutch adjuster slow88stang.I don't see how your clutch could
be worn out.

Where is the auto adjusting ratched located? is it on the pedal inside the car? does anyone have a pic of their clutch fork assembly? what does the retaining clip look like cause i put on everything that was there but im not the first owner of the car. so it could have been originaly missing and i just didnt know the difference.

The clutch quadrant is right above the gas pedal. its a ugly white/yellow plastic thing, You can't miss it.

Just a question sorta related to this... how long does it take for a clutch to wear out?

I have looked all under the dash and I cant see any adjuster thing. What does it look like? I dont know if it is there, it may have been lost since I got the car. I now have almost 3" of play in my pedal before anything starts to happen and even with the clutch pedal to the floor the car wont roll (when engine not running). The one thing that is really confusing me is that one minute it will work fine then it will be really bad and wont let me shift at all. then after a bit it will get better again. Im really beating my head against a wall trying to figure this out.

It doesn't matter "where" the adjuster is...just pull the pedal all the way up and listen for the ratcheting noise.

I had the same problem ... the plastic piece broke. I had to replace it ... but pull the pedal all the way up first as everyone has suggested.
