You guys got me busted. I also just get caught up staring and often forget to wave.. I always did when riding my cbr though... ouch. Well, I will start today!
When I drove around in my restored 65 VW beetle back in the day, any VW owner would throw me the peace sign. I usually give most people a head nod, a nice rev or the peace sign while holding the steering wheel.
I think it has to start with the individual. You have to do it for yourself. Dont hesitate or think about it. If they wave fine, if not fine. Dont sweat it.
I did it today. No matter what kind it was I waved. Dont care if they wave back. Sure it would be nice but they may not see you or are busy or whatever. Either way doesnt matter. Be friendly!
Do all of your VW friends drive with the hoods off, too? Whats up with that, anyways?

If I met you on the road, I'd flashing my lights, honking my horn, smiling, and waving just to make sure you get the message that you've got a killer car.
We (my fiance and I) acknowledge nice looking/sounding muscle cars... and we drive SUVs.
I think it's too bad that people don't acknowledge the time and effort (not to mention money and blood) that goes into a lot of cars. I think it's become to competitive.
