Wheel bearing/Hub

I believe the right front wheel bearing on my 97 GT is a bit loose. I can wiggle the tire around more than I think it should, and I seem to be getting terrible wear on that tire. I've never taken apart this newer style of bearing, where it is integrated into a hub.

So how much did it cost you for the hub and how big of a pain in the ass was it? I saw that front hub nut has a torque specification of nearly 300ft*lbs. Should be fun to take apart.

Well its weird you posted this. I JUST changed my wheel bearings/hubs on saturday. I bought mine from ROCKAUTO.com. They are TIMKEN brand and come complete with bearing, hub, ABS ring, and even studs.

All you have to do is jack up the car, take the wheels off. take off the brake caliper and rotor. You need to pry the dust cover off. I used an average size straight slot screw driver and a hammer. The nut size should be 35mm. I used an impact and it came off easily. Then the hub just slides right off. And you reinstall everything.

If it takes you longer than two hours, something is seriously wrong. Its probably one of the easiest things I've ever done on the mustang. I noticed my car doesn't wander as much on the road, is much quieter on the freeway and going over bumps as well! I'm VERY happy with them. Cost was just over 100 for both SHIPPED.

Cool, sounds about like what I expected. I guess if need to do one, I should do both. I found the issue because it wanders a little on the highway. I'll probably be making a big order from rock auto soon... for both cars. I'll probably have to buy a 35mm socket too.

i would do both. but thats just me. if you have equal miles on the other side, you might as well do it.

I would do both. They are super easy. I used an impact on mine too to reinstall it. I didn't toruqe it, I just let 'er rip on clockwise for a few seconds...hasn't fallen off....yet...hehe
