Wheel hop?

Hi, I have a 91 gt and for some reason It wheel hops real bad. Mostly in reverse but also in 1st gear at the start off. It feels like the right rear tire is hoppin off the ground. The guy i bought the car off had put 3:73's in it. Could this be related to my problem? Its real bad, if i dont clutch it just right it feels like somethings gonna give.

Stock or aftermarket control arms? If they're still the stock control arms, your bushings could be worn out allowing the rear end to move around too much. It's a bad design on Ford's part, which binds up and causes it to hop. Do you still have the quad shocks installed? If they're not, you can generally experience more wheel hop than without them. If they're the stock quads, they could also be worn out and need replacing. My old 90 GT factory quads had zero pressure in them. I could literally push and pull the shock to and from full extension.

Most likely the LCA's and UCA's are shot. The LCA's will be most noticed if replaced. But most kits come with uppers. I could buy a set and installed them. Even tires can cause wheel hop. Make sure they are both inflated equally and they have a decent amount of tread on them.

shouldn't be hopping in reverse!!!! should never be going fast enough in reverse to make this happen????? why would you be doing this anyway? keep doing that and you'll be here asking more questions on how to fix what you break by going mach 1 in reverse!! if its doing it in first your bushings are shot! or someone removed your quad shocks! !

Try replacing your quadshocks and control arm bushings..

I dont even give it much gas and it does it. I learned to just feather the clutch to stop it. But i cant be at a light or on a hill and do it. I had an idea It was the shocks and bushings. But just wanted to make sure it wasnt a ring and pinion problem. Any suggestions or a name brand i should get? Most of the people i deal with have cheap quickfix parts

You can get new Quads from Autozone Gabriel P/N 14039, the boxes are usually mismarked as Steering Dampers, just ignore that.

are your U joints OK? you might be confusing wheel hop with drivetrain binding...does it do it while normally driving or during a burnout? if the tires dontlose traction you should have no hopping effect

I would check out your UCA and LCA bushings. If they are bad, you should just upgrade.

sounds like the cluch has hots spots in it change the cluch and resurface the flywheel everything will be good
