Wheel hop

After installing my T-5, 620 springs, and doing the shelby drop I now have wheel hop. When I first start driving the car doesn't seem to do it as much but after driving about 10 miles it start the wheel hop. Are my rear springs wore? Should I put on traction bars and if so what kind?

On a different subject the rear also a set of air shocks from the 80's. I am going to replace all four. Do you guys have any suggestions for a replacement brand? I autocross about once a month but would like to take it to the 1/4 mile track and possibly enter it in the texas mile this year.

Thanks
Nathan

Are you doing repeated launches? It spins smoothly on the first ones but the the wheels hop under accleration after a few ?

I autocross as well and have been pleased with the KYB gas adjust shocks.

I have installed the under ride traction bars and they eliminated my hop.

I have a hard time believing you are geting wheel hop on an easy take off from a stop light. Are you sure its wheel hop ? What does it feel like ? Have someone drive the car by you so you can see if it is actually wheel hop or something else.

If you want some really nice shocks, get some Bilstiens. The KYBs are good but very stiff valving. Check out opentracker's website for the Bulstiens, I think he sells them.

When I take off from a stop light it vibrates badly till I either let the clutch out all the way or push it back in. I had a friend drive my car and it looks like the rear leaf spring on the passenger side shakes when they started moving. I will check out the motor mounts when I get back home.

That sounds like clutch chatter, not wheel hop. Did you use a used flywheel/clutch?

Wheel hop only happens when you spin the tires, not from an easy start.

:nice::nice:

The flywheel is used but the clutch is new. Should I have them both replaced or have the clutch resurfaced?

I don't think you can re-surface the clutch, just the flywheel.

It's best to replace with a new clutch (resurfacing the flywheel is fine), but if you're not afraid of the work there's no reason why you can't try re-surfacing the flywheel 1st, then replace the clutch if the problem persists. If you havn't put many miles on the new clutch, I'd give just re-surfacing the flywheel a try.

Also, clean everything really well with brake cleaner before assembly. Make sure the rear main seal isn't leaking. If it is, then replace it or you will destroy the new clutch in a short period of time and get chatter again relatively soon.
