Ok all, just ordered up new Wheels and tires for my Lightning, lord knows its been due for a while, talked to my local tire guy and if i buy new tires for the mustang as well he said he would cut me a better deal. I did a search for posts on wheel/tire sizes and came up with this.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Personally, I wouldn't use either of those sizes. The diameter of the rears is WAY too big and the front's too small.

When choosing tires, first decide what size wheels they'll be going on. (i.e. 17's, 18's or 19's) Then decide how wide you'd like them to be. Then everything else is decided for you.

Your goal is to get as close to a 27.2" tire diameter as possible so you don't have to recalibrate your speedometer, odometer, and tripometer. And you don't want to increase your wheel well gap.

Here are the correct tire sizes if you're putting 18's on a new Mustang.
255/45/18
265/45/18
285/40/18
295/40/18

That's it if you want to lower the car. So all you have to do, since you know you want 18's, is choose how wide you want. If you get the right offset on the wheels, all those sizes will fit.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I want to order the Deep Dish Bullets from american Muscle, 18 x 9 Front and 18 x 10 rears. They suggest 255-45-18s and 275-40-18s F/R
i would like to order the same tire i run on my Lightning Nitto 555 extreme performance, have run that tire for a couple years on the truck with no complaints.
This spring, i plan on ordering the FRPP Handling package for the stang which includes a 1.5 inch drop
I want to run as much tire as i can on the rear and not really *skinnys* but i like the look of a slightly smaller tire up front. The Nittos come in these avail sizes
Front 255-35-18/255-45-18 or 265-35-18
Rear 275-35-18/275-40-18 or 285-35-18/285-40-18 or 295-45-18

Im under the assumption that the wheels are backspaced according to the car for the size of the rims since they are from a mustang website.
what would be the best combo to run? which tire is actually smaller in the front, the 255/35 or the 255/45 and could i get the 295/45 on the rear especially once i get the Handling package/Drop kit installed?
im not a road racer or even much of a Track guy ( at least not yet, cant afford to break my toys at this point) but i would like to improve appearence and hopefully handling as well, i do enjoy turns and a few sideway's spurts when no-one is around

Any of you guys that have run similiar sizes or lowering kits or just those of ya that are smarter then me, any input would be appreciated

PS, if its possible to run the 295-45-18s it would be a bonus, because thats the exact size on my L as well, and i have a couple of useable spares, can even rotate the 6 tires across the rims if i need to. Burn-outs, the reason ill be broke for the rest of my life

255/45-18 is 10.1" wide, 27" tall
255/35-18 is 10.2" wide, 25" tall
295/45-18 is 11.6" wide, 28.4" tall
285/35-18 is 11.4" wide, 25.9" tall
I believe I would do the 255/35 Front and 285/35 Rear as they are the closest in height with the staggered sizes. They're are many people on here running the staggered sizes so they will help you the best. Good luck

The shop I was at today had a Lightning sitting in there. It had the 295/45-18s on it. Clearly way to tall for the Stang, unless it was a drag radial or slick on a on lowered car.

ya, i found this tire calculator thing at miata.net that breaks down and compares all the diff size tires you want and tells you what will happen to your speedo with the size compared to your stock tire, I think im going to end up going with 255x45x18s for the front and 285x40x18s for the rear, will only make my speedo off by 3mph and i believe will fill in my wheel wells well enough

Here's another good tire calculator for comparing tire diameters.
