Can I use carb cleaner as the "oil" K&N demands we use. I bought the cleaner kit but I left it in my garage in California so I dont wanna buy one again. Cant I just clean with soap and water then spray either like Carb Cleaner or and engine detailer stuff I have that shines as an oil?

Yuo can use another kind of mild degreaser toclean it but I would not try to use other products to oil it with.

IIRC, the oil and cleaner come in a package together -- so if you have to buy the oil...

Jerry, you're gonna end up ruining the filter by cheaping out......buy the proper stuff.

You can get the kits for about $8 at Wal-Mart or any parts store. Or, to save a couple of bucks most places stock either just the oil or the cleaner.

agreed with the majority here. SPend the 8-10 bucks to save your 40 dollar investment. I would use soap at the most for cleaning - no solvent.

W/O oiling it, it would likely perform close to having no filter at all.

Good luck.
