If I had that much money I'd buy myself a custom ambulance just for my shift. Chrome everything, train airhorns, enough LED's to actually put a hurting on the electrical system. Those little airguns for injecting meds, oooo I can see so many neat little things.

Not to mention taking complete control of Carrol Shelby enterprises. I can envision myself as a diabolical mad scientist.

Hmmmmmm, I'm getting this mental image..... a "Shelby-ized" Frontline or Wheeled Coach
Intercooled twin huffer Powerstroke; re-timed Allison tranny; "Z"-rated LT tires (if there is such an animal) all around......

Sure we're drifting OT; but I think even FUZZY would get behind THAT idea!

ehhh.........we're not too thrilled with our Wheeled Coach (now in service for 9 months).........but ya I could dig a custom "bus", but it's all show unless you got the driver who can handle it (being the man in the back, I don't often get to drive......)

Okay, I can accept that - however, you have to admit (if you've ever "experienced" one) that Wheeled Coach is at least better than a National

Well, maybe you should get Cheapie to move East and get him to drive the bus for you

All we've ever had were Wheeled Coach's MAV's, have never had good reliability with us. I think part of that has to do with the Freightliner chassis though. We're lucky in that we run 2 medics per truck so we get to swap after every call. Can't let your basics have all the fun driving weewooweewooweewoo.............................................

That would be a funny photoshop, a Shelby med unit. Instead of a "ronaele" they could call it a "ecnalubma", makes about as much sense right, lol. ok, just got off my 24h, gonna nap.

One of the trends I'm seeing out here is the push towards the Ford Super-Duty cab/chassis units. COYFD Rescue likes the F-550 setups with a pass-thru between the cab and box; Rural/Metro (ambulance operator) still leaning towards the van cabs.

Since the F-550 sits lower (and wider); I can't figure out why anybody would want to fight through traffic in a tippy old van chassis Can one of you pro's explain that?

PRICE!!

@ 140 K for a new/used Freightliner (Wheeled Coach MAV) they don't come cheap and repair parts are significantly more expensive. The only benefits I see are greater visibility ( down blouses at redlights ), better turning radius ( i was surprised at that, it will out-turn a van or p/u based unit) and better crash survivability (we've rolled 2).
Now a vans/trucks are significantly cheaper, have reduced operating costs and are smoother riding around town. The downside is their operating life isnt as long, they are "tippy", and they don't do so well in wrecks.

For city ems, give me a new sprinter based unit, for rural use (like i do now) I'll take a medium duty unit, but please give me a new International and get rid of my Freightliner FL 60.
