At the track yesterday a guy was very proud that he had one of the “first 5000 GTs” he said his was built in March 05. When he asked me when mine was built I had NO idea. He ever so graciously volunteered to check. Well mine just happened to roll off the line in Jan! I was just curious to see when they were produced and if there was a way to find out exactly what “number” your car was?

Funny, they started production I believe on Sept. 30th of 2004, I would think they produced more than 5,000 before March?? I guess it's possible because I heard the vin number contains the number your car is off the line. I just can't remember exactly which numbers represent this.

I know mine was built on May 23rd but that's because I ordered the car and the dealer was tracking it for me.

Sorry I wasn't much help but it's a start.

mine was made in 10/05, so i guess that makes mine one of the first 100 GTs the right?

Delivery Date

Mine hit Little Rock Arkansas at Landers Ford 10/04 on a Friday and was a special order, picked it up on Saturday, people were fighting over it as it was parked out front with a sold tag on it.

I would be interested in knowing the build date, I ordered it several months prior to delivery. One trip to the dealer for a bogging issue and headlight adjustment, have about 8500 miles after 17 months, kept it covered in the garage........

Just my thoughts

look in the lower rear corner of your door jamb. it will have the month/year of your production date. for more specific information, you will have to turn to one of the other "informants" online.

That really looks like it works

That minus 100000 thing looks like it really works and that makes mine built in 09/04 the 4712 stang to roll off the lot. Now here is the real question. What number of GT did i get and how many other Black 5-speeds were made before mine with the premium interior? Anybody got that one figured out?

Here's the real story.

About 300, 05 Mustangs were built in June 04 - July 04.
These were pre-production models that were used primarily for crash & other testing and preview cars for the media.

In August 04 about 2,000, 2005 Mustangs were built - before the official start of production.

The "official" launch date for 2005 Mustang production was Sept 7, 2004.
About 4,000, 05 Mustangs were built in September 05.
October 05 over 8,000 were built
November 05 over 10,000 were built.
Dec 05 to March 05 over 14,000 were built per month.

That makes ~80,000 Mustangs as of March 05. Since the intial build rate was 32% GT (upped to 38% GT in Feb 05) that means by the end of March 05 about 28,000 GTs had been built.

So if you see that guy at the track again, be sure to congratulate him on having one of the first 30,000, 2005 Mustang GTs that were built ( & one of the first 80,0000 of all 05 Mustangs built). Don't forget to tell him that makes his Mustang really special and much better than other people's Mustangs.

What 351CJ said makes sense....My GT was ordered Nov 2004 and I picked her up January 27, 2005...If I subtract 100000 from the last six digits in my VIN number, my build number would be approximately 42,000...

Job 1 was Sep 7, 2004 like 351CJ said.

As for the number at the end of your VIN, that does NOT represent what order it came off the assembly line. That is simply the order it was "serialzed". (given a VIN)

So if your VIN ends with 102345, that means it was the 2,345th Mustang to get a VIN.

To clarify what I posted, the "launch date" for the 05 Mustang was around Sept 28, 2004.

The official start of production (called Job 1 ) was Sept 7, 2004.
However, over 2,000, model year 2005 Mustangs were built before the Job 1 date.

The date on the window sticker isn't the build date.
The date on mime is 2/21/05. That's a week before my actual build date of 2/28/05.

You have to distinguish between the model year and the calander year. That is 2005 model year Mustangs were manufactured in both calander years 2004 and 2005. Likewise, 2006 model year Mustangs went into production in August 2005 and will be produced until mid June 2006.

If you are asking about 2005 model year Mustang production, the answer is:
Total production: 160,412
#of V6s: 99,620
# of GTs: 60,792

To determine how many of them were built in calander years 2004 and in calander year 2005 would take a lot of work to find the exact production #s for each month, but it can be done. The problem is sorting out between the estimated weekly production #s that are published by trade rags like Automotive News and the actual #s which Ford does not normally break down by vehicle model.

One more bit of information, the date on the window sticker is NOT the day your car was assembled. It is the date that the dealer was invoiced for the car. Look at the blue DOT sticker on your door jam for the date of the build. I haven't checked recently to see of AAI still does this, but AAI used to put the exact production date MM/DD/YY on the DOT sticker, while most other Ford plants just list MM/YY on the DOT sticker.

Finally, you guys can feel free to thank me for this invaluable information I just gave you.

I'm curious where you got the exact '05 MY production numbers. Look like Ford didn't come anywhere close to their total production goals.

As for the build date, AAI is only putting the month/year on the DOT sticker.

And, btw, I hope that last line was meant to be funny.

Ford gives the production info. for each model year to several Mustang clubs like MCA, Yellow Mustang Registry, etc. Production #s by color are also available. They have been published on other Mustang sites.

You have to keep in mind the the 2005 Model year was a short production year. The 05 Mustang had only an 11 month production run from Sept 7, 2004 until around August 6, 2005. The 1st couple of months of production, Sept 04 and Oct 04 were not at full capacity as Ford ramped up production it had to work out some kinks with the production line and cope with parts shortages that limited production.

Yes, but on March 17th Ford said their expected production was increased from 180K to 192K.

I'd like to see at least one of these places where real '05 production numbers have been posted. None of the major Mustang sites have posted anything official. This includes the YMR, TheMustangSource, Stangnet, The Corral, AllFordMustangs, etc
