Whats up everyone, my dad bought a 66 fastback to add to our lil family of stangs. the stangs are 65 fastback project(nasty shape, my moms when she was 16) 95 v6 which i sold for a downpayment on my house, my 01 GT and now the 66'.

Thing is i never really studied classic stangs since i was a kid trying to restore the 65. So I'm not exactly sure where to start. I was hoping y'all could give me a little direction.

Here is what is done to the 66. I'm can't recall what the K-code is? distributor???
9" posi w/ 4.11's, some kind of Muffler bros exhaust system No tailpipes, old hurst shifter of some kind, and i'll have to get back at what kind of carb is in it.
thanks in advance for any help

What do you want to do to it? Daily driver? Restoration? Resto-mod?

Off hand, I'd say someone has done much to it. 4.11's in the back will kill you if you drive it any distance--gas and such.

K code is a 289 Hipo, named such because the data plate will have a K for engine type, vs an A or a C.

I always start by getting it mechanically sound. Work with what you have and get it so it'll run. Then, I move to the body, if the interior is useable. If you are going to not drive it while you work on it, you can start just about anywhere. I never have that luxury, so it has to be road worthy most of the time. (Drove a 65 that was primer gray with no bumpers for 5 months before.)

What do you want to do with the car?

Hey thanks for the quick replies and for the knowledge on the k-code

This will be a resto-mod. The whole car is almost completely restored from ground up. Really the restoration i have ahead of me now is much of the chrome is pitted over the entire car. no biggie. and we we're given a gt pan for the rear with the trumpet pipes. just some minor things

Really the outside/body will stay near stock like restoration. The interior will be modded up a lil. Thats the way my mom and dad want it. They don't want major mods to the appearance. So really the engine/drivetrain is my area to improve. It's not a daily driver. Just a cruiser that will see scattered track visits.

Hope that helps with suggestions

Well as everyone else said and to save the headaches, making it reliable should be goal #1. Even if it's only driven once a week, you'll be real disappointed when it cranks and coughs and doesn't start up or leaves you stranded.

Reliability/Safety:
Tires, starter, air filter, coil, plug wires, electronic ignition, carb depending on condition, radiator depending on condition

Performance:
Brakes, suspension, intake, heads, cam, valvetrain, bottom end

Just a list of ideas. Fix whats broken before you get started on the fun stuff.
