I have heard that the MSD 6 units really do not like the high temperatures found under the hood and it should never be mounted there.

Is this true or false?

I currently have mine hidden under the washer bag of my 65' and am considering my options of how to better install it. Would a simple stainless heat shield be enough to keep the heat down or would the temperatures still be to much in the engine compartment? (Remember I have headers.)

If I absolutely need to relocate it, where is a good place to mount it where it won't be seen (I have a "sleeper" mentality.) It seems that there is not enough room under the dash of the 65' and I suppose putting it in the trunk would create an issue due to the length of the wires required----Would the excess wire lenght cause unforeseen ignition issues???

So where have you guys mounted your MSD 6 units?

I've had mine mounted under the hood for three years now and run 212 in the summer. I also mounted my catch can right on top...so hot radiator fluid sits up against it all the time. I have not had any issues.

Can you see it?

Mine is on the drive shaft tunnel just behind the shifter. It has an RPM adjustable module mounted on top.

If you want it out of sight put it under the dashboard to get it away from heat and moisture. Do not forget the rubber mounts to help with vibration.

Here's where I mounted mine, 1 year on the road with no problems! It gets fresh air there from the openings for the battery.

Mine is mounted on the inside firewall up behind the heater plenum. Pita to wire the tach and to change RPM module. I would not put it there again. (Although it it hidden very well)

Mines in the same spot as mustangman70. I've since removed my washer bottle and would rather it be verticle and further up where the washer bottle was so its more out of the way and cleaner looking. Had mine about 4 years and 15,000 miles, no problems.
