I have read that getting a Alternator rewound is cheaper then a new one. I have been looking in my phone book for a alternator service place, but none are there.

Are there any national chains Mieneke / Firestone / etc that will re-wind an alternator for more output?

Thanks

I wouldn't do it. I have heard of many horror stories. Just save up the money and buy a good solid alt.

I was running >2500 watts RMS off the factory charging system in my '02. My headlights didn't even dim.

What kind of trouble are you having that you think a new alternator will solve?

BTW, I see you are enjoying that w6...nice driver- now port it and let it wow you even more

The problem I was having with the HX2 was lots of dimming. I might just have a bad battery, it has died on me twice, but that was when I left it for months not going anywhere in the winter. I have also not checked my CAP to see if it is still charged. Ford had my car apart, and battery disconnected for a while.

I am also planning on getting a yellow top soon.

I have not yet really cranked up the system since installing the W6. Been trying to be easy on it for a while.

My guess is that I was stressing my amp when I had the HX2 just trying to power the beast and was causing excessive drain. The W6 seems a lot more responsive, and clearer with lot less power and louder to boot.

The amps is turned way down for now. I need to work on tuning the system again, but just have not had the time. Tuned it quickly by ear, one weekend I'll take a DMM or O-scope from work and play with it all.

Porting my box might be a little difficult, but I don't think I need it either. The W6 drops...its actually over powering my highs (tuning again..). If after a full tune, I'll have a better idea.

with the amps you have in your sig it shouldnt be that taxing on the charging system. I would start with a new battery. One thing to do is while the car is running and the stereo up check your voltage with a DMM at the battery, that will tell you how the alternator is doing. also i see you have a cap. I have never used one but from what i have heard is that they dont do much and arent needed. Maybe try with the cap disconnected, there might be a problem with that.

I agree. You get what you pay for. If it does break, your going to end up spending more money than if you just got a new one. Good Luck.
