For Drag racing etc, where are most ppl trying to shift these cars at with mostly stock setup?

5500? or 5800 rpm?

When my car was completely stock I would shift right a red line (6000rpm). With the tune I have on my car now I changed my rev limiter to 6900 and I shift at around 6700-6800.

That's where the power is. The most area under the power curve gets the best acceleration.

6400 is where I'm shifting.. on the dyno we ran it to 6800 and it was still making more power up there.

for now you will have to shift at 6k but when you get a tune you can move the limiter higher and shift at 6700 or so, these cars do make power up there and shifting that high will put you into a better spot in the power curve for the next gear.

mine works really well and can take a fair amount

Bone stock mine shifted right at 6000 RPM. How long will stock internals last being subjected to 6800+ RPM? My Brenspeed tune came with them set at 6800, but I dropped it back down to 6200 RPM after a few weeks. Being that mine is automatic, I don't want it revving that high everytime I go WOT on the street. I know when I go to the track I will raise it to see the difference and then drop it back before heading home.

6600 is the max i would take this engine.

the rev limiter set from the factory is there for a purpose. it is to keep the valvetrain from getting messed up or broken. Yet, it can withstand higher than 6000 rpms easily for just the reason that people do tach em up.

You dont need mods to shift higher than redline, just a tuner to raise the rev limiter. The mods will push/extend the powerband further up the rpm range, and the peak torque should stay close to the same.

If you have a dyno sheet, look at where you peak at most hp, that is the best place to shift. after that the HP table starts to fall and you will make less power, thus decreasing rate of acceleration, but if it is still more productive than the next gear, go for it.

it is all about track time and messing around with it and see where you get the best trap speed.

I currently have the rev limiter at 5500 with my sct tuner. its to keep my brother from taching the thing up time he drives it. plus, i dont street race and 5500 is enough for street purposes. At the track i will push it to a 6600limit.

Ok. What if you have 4.10's? That seems weird to go that high on the band to me.

yah, i have 3:55's and i think im gonna try between 5500 to 6000 until i find a good shift point. 5800 for some reason sounds about right.

Anytime I have gone over 6k in my ride it just doesnt feel or sound right to me and I have noticed that if I shifht at 5800-59 2nd to 3rd I can chirp 3rd. I go over or under and no chirp. I thought that ment I was hitting it right maybe I am wrong.

You dont need to worry about what others are shifting at sir. All our cars are somewhat different in most cases in this forum. Meaning the range is from bone stock to outrageous. You will need to find out for your self by standing on it till it falls off then shift FAST!
Note where the power first started to fall on the tach then practice shifting just before that point what ever it was. Do this in in 1st thru 4th gear a few times till you have it down by ear and feel, 5th gear has no bearing on drag racing, and even 4th will not be needed unless you have 4:10 gears.

I hit the lights in the 12.90 to 13.20 range depending on how well I launch, and am turning 6.800 rpm rapped out in 3rd. I run 3:55's and 18' wheels, and also run the Brenspeed tune along with other modifications.

You shift at the point that puts you right back at the beginning of your power band without any "bogging". I usually shift around 6100 rpms when I'm at the track and ran a 12.9 doing it

Untuned shift between 5800-6100rpms, stock revlimiter is set at 6250. Tuned shift between 6400-6500rpms at the track for best et's, tuned the revlimiter is set for 6800 rpms. This is where most tuners set there rev limiters on custom tunes because the throttle will start to close as you approach 200-300rpms from the rev limiter. This allows for people who shift at 64-6500rpms to complete their shift without the throttle starting to close off. I've baught tunes from three well known tuners and there default setting for the rev limiter was 6800. Hope this helps!
