WHHHY is my car soooo slow?!?

really, i heard that the ngk's are a lot better plugs than the autolites. The car had no difference in performance when i changed the plugs. I'm running a c&l 70mm. Idon't have a set of 24's and i don't have too much money lying around, or else i would have had them already. If someone wants to donate a set, hehe. The heads are made for the upper rpms, and even when i hold it to 6250 it doesn't have anything special. My aod shifts at about 6000rpms.
thanks

Hmm, even though it sucks....I would say the car would run so much better with some 24# and a 80mm Pro-M. Look on the classifieds man, thats all I can say. You said you upped the fuel pressure and the plug were more white than before. So even though you adjusted your fuel pressure you were running lean. What do you have your FP set at?

right now i have it set at 48psi. I haven't pulled the plugs since i increase it, but i didn't noticeany power gain. I'll pull them tomorrow when its not pouring rain out. Yeah maybe i can get a set out of the junkyard and get them cleaned and everything. Why the big maf though? are they more accurate?
thanks for all the replies

The 80mm Pro-M is the best MAF on the market. Best all around meter their is, I am currently in the market for one myself when they go back on sale. I have a 75mm Bullet on my car right now and it does fine. So you could use one of those if you wanted too. You can find #24 injectors and MAF for sale on the Trader section together for a good price. I would personally do that, then you would have the car properly equiped to be tuned and everything. Its just my view on it man, id ask some more people with a lot more experience than I have. Good luck bud.

The reason i mentioned 12 degrees of timing is to reduce the chance of hurting your engine because its running lean. With 19# inj, it is running lean. When I had my car dynoed I had 24# inj's on it with a 255 lph pump and it went lean at about 5700 rpm. I put 30#'s on and its fixed. Runs a little rich sometimes, but it made 347hp and 384lb/ft at the wheels. If you dont have a stall converter in your car with that aod save your money and get one. You will be very happy. C&L meters also work very well, The 76mm with tube is a nice piece. Good luck and dont blow it up before you get more fuel.

ooooo i see. Whats your setup? Looks like i need some 24's. From what i'm getting from you guys, i'm going to run lean no matter what i do with 19lbs injectors. I'll try all the other suggestions regardless. Thnk you for all the replies and i'll let you know if something helps alieviate the problem

By the looks of what you have yes the 19lb'rs need to go. I sent a pic of my rig in race trim. I wrote most of my setup back a little ways in this thread, I dont know how write it out and keep it with my posts and replies.

go with bigger injectors and MAF. you already have the fuel pump so with bigger injectors, you should be on your way. Do yourself a favor and get a bigger convertor on your AOD. something like maybe a 3000 stall convertor. Should wake up your car.

Matt

Yep, you need the new injectors. I forgot you had a C&L meter, all you need to do is get a sample tube for whatever injector you buy. It will save you some money for now, that way you can always get the 80mm Pro-M when they go on sale for the $199. Good luck.

rsw007 - Everyone keeps questioning your times. Why don't you just settle the dispute and tell us what you've done? I personally don't care, because i'm not a drag racer, but others are obviously interested. We're all on the same team here.

I don't question your times at all. FordMuscle had an AOD car in the high 13s with a completely stock engine (stock MAF, TB, intake, longblock). With a good exhaust, upgraded MAF/TB/injectors, stall converter, and traction, i think mid 13s is definitely attainable.

Sorry for the thread hijack.

With a 1.75 60' you have a very good suspension set up and a very good stall converter. I bought my car 7 years ago bone stock and piece by piece got it going pretty good on a very tight budget. I have also raced it every weekend for 4 years now so i know what it takes to get an AOD moving. As far as bolt on's, you either have different heads, intake forward or went nuts and gutted it! Good job either way! :nice:
