I am looking to purchase a cat back kit for my stock 97 cobra. unfortunately the only person that has a cobra, that I know has heavily modified it. I have tried the exhaust website, but I can't find a sound that I absolutely want. I have heard spintech side exit exhaust on a v-6, not bad. Slp on a 2003 gt sounds all right. I eventually want that sound that perks our ears like from 4-500 hundred feet from a stop light. The, I hear a mustang, where is it sound.
ANY SUGGESTIONS? I am thinking off road h, and some kind of cat back. Thanks, chris

Well, this is just my opinion, but I usually associate that "classic" sound to a 5.0 with an off-road H pipe and a Flowmaster catback. Having said that, you could probably opt for a similar exhaust combo with your 4.6.
An off-road H pipe combined with a chambered-style muffler/catback (Flowmaster, MAC, etc) should get the job done...

Ive herd spintechs and I must say they sound like crap. The "I heard a mustang" sound you are looking for is Flowmaster 2 chambers.

Flowmasters sound like your motor is gargling through a paper towel tube. People know what car it is before they even see it coming. It's a commonly heard sharp reverberating sound. That's why I like the deeper and not as raspy tone of Magnaflows or the Bassanis. You feel the Mags, not hear them. I get alot of quizzical head-turns from the "I hear a stang" crowd who wouldn't give a Flowmastered/h-pipe-equipped Stang an over the shoulder look. They don't drone as much on the highway and only "open up" audibly when you mash the pedal. Also maybe a drawback maybe not, but the Magnaflows do sort of sound like a Winston Cup car at 5-7k RPM. In a tunnel they are creamy goodness, especially a hi-revving Cobra.

Really it's all a matter of taste. Go to a mustang meet, ask around and listen. Check dyno stats. Good Luck!

I have the magnapacks on my 98 and the regular magnaflows on my 97. Both sound awsome depends on how loud you wanna go.

Consider Borla. Very pricey. Sound: Can't help ya. Not everyone likes the same sound. But they are not the loudest of the bunch.

I listened to the exhaust website again, and I think that I am going to go with american thunder, and h pipe. The only question that I have, is the two sound clips with the above mentioned setup, the offroad h pipe one, on a deceant rev, as the rpms dropped, it crackled. Is that something to expect from an offroad pipe? I really couldn't tell a difference other than that. Do any of you guys have a killer setup, with good sound clips? thanks again, chris
