which clutch?

well as some of you know my distributor/cam gear decided to eat it self leaving me to rebuild my motor. Im going to upgrade to a TFS1 cam and I already had GT40 Y303 heads and a Cobra Intake with 1.6 roller rockers. I will most likel have the block machined, and re use my crank and rods and get new aluminum pistons to make a 306 (not set up for boost). What clutch would you guys suggest? I have a King Cobra in there now and I love it. Think that will suffice? The reason im going to swap the clutch is because I'll be that deep anyway, plus its the clutch I learned to drive stick on so I'm sure it's beat up quite a bit.

center force stage 2 is what my dad has with his 450 hp 351 mustang and works great. I didn't get to ride in it yet but from what he has told me its a great clutch.

i've got the c/f dual friction setup.it's seen many dragstrip runs on slicks and feels as good today as it did 2 years ago when i first put it in.

I have used the Center Force Dual Friction in 3 of my Mustangs that I had needed clutches for. I love it and I will never even try to use another brand because the Dual Friction has never given me one issue and has held up to a lot of power and abuse!!!! Easy pedal effort too!!!

I'm going to go against the grain here. I don't like CF, we saw several grenaded ones at the shop when I was there. They're overpriced, and those little couterweights are a gimmick. That being said, their service is great- they always sent free replacements under warrantee.You just get sick of changing them, free or otherwise. Granted, these were in completely different applications, not Mustangs, but they were CF DF clutches.
That isn't my posting point though. What exactly is it about the King Cobra that you love? I've used CF DF, two FRPP KC's, a SPEC, McLoud, Ram, and one or two others in my stangs, and there is no other clutch that works quite like the KC. (that isn't to say I like it, I don't) Regardless, the KC has a different design pressure plate which allows it to have full pedal arc modulation while still grabbing right off the floor. If you like it grabbing that low, it will be difficult for you to get any other clutch (that I've used) to feel the same. IMO, a properly set up clutch should engage/disengage halfway through the pedal arc, and the KC doesn't. If you like that, the KC is your clutch.
I don't, however, know what the torque rating is on the KC, which I inferred was the reason behind your question. I believe it will hold up fine to the engine build you're specifying without any problems. If you're looking for a stronger clutch that will still grab right off the floor, I won't say they don't exist, I just don't know of any.

the cf df went over 300 mid 12 sec passes on one of my cars, and has taken over 100 passes, + street driving through my 10 second sc car.
i would recomend it.
but if you are looking for axle/ input shaft/ gear destroying intstant grabbing brute force, there is not a better clutch than a spec, but they just grab to hard for my liking,and usually just end up breaking too many parts.

I'd stray away from Spec.

I have used Centerforce Stage II clutch and the King Cobra. I like the CF better. Softer pedal and holds more power.

KC's are good for h/c/i cars...but usually not much more than that if you want it to last.

I would say just put another KC back in.

If you wanted something better w/o having a hard hitting chatter box, use a mcleod disk and a KC pressure plate. I've had the KC/mcleod combo and a motorsport hd/mcleod combo and both worked flawlessly at my power and rpm level. The KC pedal is a little softer but the HD handles more power and rpm due to the higher clamping force but with that clamping force comes a slightly harder pedal.

i replaced a king cobra clutch with a CF and love the CF, much less effort and perfect grabbiness, doesn't care when its hot as kcuf either when parallel parking for days on a steep hill, if anything it feels a little toooo stock for me, almost wish it was grabbier

but i did say

I'm sorry, I must have interpreted your post wrong. I was under the impression that you want a clutch that works like a torque converter in a slushbox, because all that power you have and clutch that actually can hold it was showing you how many week links you had by breaking all your inferior drivetrain parts. I really inferred that it was a sarcastic was of saying you don't like SPEC. My mistake...

I'd say go for a KC. I don't have many gripes about mine, other than the aforementioned odd point of catching right off the floor, but otherwise it's all good. For the price (got mine for $175 shipped, IIRC), you can't really beat 'em.
