which forged internals?

i am planning on getting the novi 2000 mongoose kit, and i like the idea of having forged internals over stock. my question is: should i buy rods and pistons and have them installed to my existing short block? or should i buy an already assembled short block from VT or D.S.S. or Modularpowerhouse? oh BTW, i have an 02 gt. thanks

Trust me on this, buy the shortblock. I just built my stroker and it seemed there were problems eveywhich way we turned. Just get the shortblock, slap your heads and intake on, and be done. All the companies you listed have great product.

plus this way if something happenes to the forged block (like running too much boost ) then i still have the factory block i can use. what do i have to do to fit my factory heads onto a, say, VT forged shortblock? would it be to my advantage in the long run to buy some 4v heads from like AFR or TrickFlow or something and just have a crazy motor that i can do whatever i want to? thanks.

+1 Deffinately... it was cheaper and i got more by goin with a MMR(Modular Mustang Racing) Shortlock MMR-900 than buy forged internals and having it all put in... Chris at MMR has helped me so much... PM if you want price details.

and no your heads will fit just fine... might as well get them ported while you have them off though... and blower cams.... and longtubes.... see it never ends

Go with VT. MPH doesn't do motors anymore.

I am just buttoning up my rebuild. It is very easy to do, as long as you take your time. If you need a lot of machining just get an already built one.

By the time you buy all the tools needed it really doesn't save you anything. Well except that you now have a bunch more tools.

If you've never even seen the inside of a modular engine, then go ahead and buy a pre-built unit. I built mine and it turned out fine for the most part. Had one set back, but it was mostly my fault. Not sure how GT04Mustang would consider buying a built engine cheaper. I got mine 600hp capable for about half the price any of the major engine builders were charging.

My mmr 900 as been flawless, $2799.00 for a 900 hp rated shortblock is hard to beat.

Exactly what I'm talking about... i wasn't goin to do the work myself but for my parts AND EVRYTHING (honing the block .020 over) new oil pump, gaskets, seals, EVERYTHING considered and labor... my 2800 for a built short block was way cheaper!!!!!! PM me and I'll send you my price sheet i used and what i put in mine and what the final bill was...

And make sure you talk to a SHOP to knwo your not missing ANYTHING!!!! Make a list of what you''l need for example: New Head studs, main studs, honing, head gaskgets, oil pan gasket, etc man.... there is ALOT.... HUGE PROPS to MMR (Chris for all his help) I'll give ya the number if ya want to talk to him. Great help on my build.
