ok Im wanting to swap gears in my 87 AOD. I hear most people going with a 4:10 with the AOD cars. What do yall think about a 4:30? Too low? The 4:30 is a little cheaper than the 4:10. Also, the car is not a daily driver but I do take it to town a few times a month (interstate, approx 50 miles. Yeh I live in the boonies!) Im mostly going to use it at the track so I want to get all I can out of it. what would YOU do?? Thanks guys!!

Ive been thinking of going from a 4.10 to 4.30 myself so Im subscribing.

Only complaint I have read is that you will run out of RPM before the end of the track with that much gear and an AOD.

And that steep of a gear wouldnt be good with an power adder, but lets wait and see what others think

general statement for mustangs is: 3.73's for a 5spd. and 4.10's for auto.

But you said it isnt a daily driver and you found 4.30's cheaper. So in your case I would definatly go with 4.30's.

Sounds like the 4.6 guys. Put 4.30s on everything. You could always notch the case and put in 5.13s

Personally I would go with 3.55s for manual and 3.73s for AOD.

There's not a super big difference between 4.10s and 4.30s. About like 3.55s and 3.73s. Theres little difference so I went 3.73s and couldn't be happier. 3.90-4.10-4.30 all of those would make you happy imo.

I think you need to figure out what rpm you want to go through the traps at and select your gear from that.

Lots of opinions. I thank all of you for them. Something I forgot to mention, I run 1/8 mile track. Does that change anyones opinion? What kind of RPMs would I be looking at @ say 70-75mph on the interstate with either/or? Thanks again!
