My car will have a 5.0 w/ AOD in it very soon i need to order some heads/RR... Right now i have MAC 1 5/8 Long Tubes, MAC 2.5 O/R H pipe and MAC 2.5 Pro Dumps.. I want everything to aim for the Kenne Bell supercharger im going with

Which heads should i get, GT-40X Turbo Swirls ($1,000) which i would get ported, or go with the Ported AFR 185's http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1,1&item=8055526284&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT

With them im looking at 1.6 Ford Racing Roller Rrockers and hardened Ford Racing Pushrods

so which heads do you think are the best?

AFRs will definately be the way to go. 185s will require you to notch your pistons if you have the stock shortblock. You might want to look at some 165s if you don't plan to redo the shortblock.

Im gettin the GT-40X's and im having them ported... Those heads ported willl outflow AFR165's and it will drop my compression down a little bit more so i can run more boost with the Kenne Bell

Cost of porting x's are not worth it.

Don't get me wrong, i think they are a good head, just not worth using for porting, especially since they use pedestal mount rockers, which is not good for some of the more radical cams.

Use Track Heat or Twisted wedges. Maybe Edelbrock Rpms. Afr's are just as good, but the extra cost really can't be justified for anything other than personal preference.

Oh, one other thing, if for some reason you change combos and need to sell the x heads, you are not going to get anything near what you put into them.
With the other heads, you can get a bit more resale value.

i have someone that will port them for $50.. good friend of mine has done LOTS of porting work with mustangs... so im gonnna with that and some Ford Racing 1.6 Rockers... Im not going with too much of a radical cam, im gettin the E303

Why even come on here and ask??? From your posts it seems like you had already made up your mind.

An entire grand is way too much to spend on gt-40x heads... I just got a set of Eddy Performer RPMS with a stage 1 port job done by MV auto sports and valve work for just a smidge over $900... they outflow the gt-40x heads out of the box as it is, plus they are ported so they flow even more.

There are WAY better heads out there for the money. Heck, if thats the route you really wanna go Id be pulling some iron gt-40 heads off a car in the JY and sending them to thumper.. I willing to bet $100 bucks thumper does a better job porting heads than your friend.. no offense to him, thumper just has a lot of experience and lots of happy customers.

BUT, dont listen to me cuz you have already made up your mind.

i think i'll be doing a set of thumpers. hey thumper, are the gt40's (irons if i could find them) any better porting wise to make power than e7s? e7's just seem to be the easier answer. sorry to hijack.

Should run fine...though not the most ideal blower combo, not sure why you seem to be grabing parts with FMS part numbers rather than check out the well developed aftermarket products. There are significantly better heads and bumpsticks available for equal to or less coin.

The 40's have better runners and chambers.. and with the right port work will flow KILLER!! I do the E7's cause EVERYONE has them and it saves the initial investment for the cost of the heads..!! Cool? However all heads will improve with port/bowl/valve job, and we do them all.. Edlebrocks/TW/GT40 series blah..blah..
That being said...Yes the 40s will be better than the E7s !! and YES they ARE heavier than the E7s ( 40s are 55 lbs each.. E7s are 50 lbs each) But when your making 450+ at the wheels.. having the weight of 10 more lbs on the nose isnt going to be any bother.. when, to drop that 10 lbs ( plus 30 more with alum) for a set of alum heads and an out of pocket of $1000-$1200 !! just a thought...
Just me......................

For the person running boost with GT40Xs. There's a guy with a '65 that's running a twin-turbo 331 EFI stroker. He had GT40Xs on it with a Cobra manifold, making ~475rwhp, and lifted the heads. They couldn't seal well enough, and they were junk after that IIRC. He switched to AFRs and a TFS intake, and with the AFRs thicker sealing surfaces, he hasn't had a problem at 530rwhp. :D
