Which intake would you recommend?

Here's the setup:

91 5.0L
e7's w/gt40 valves machined in
manley stainless 1.84/1.54 valves
ported(egr bump, smoothed radii, opened runner a bit, bowl work)
dual spring w/damper
comp cams XE270HR (218/224, .544/.544, 112)
double roller timing chain
1.7 cobra rockers
stock injectors
afpr
65mm tb/egr
70mm maf
k&n
exhaust
pulleys
190lph fuel pump
3.73's(if that matters)

I think thats about it.

Anyway, what would be a good intake for this setup. I was thinking along the lines of a cobra intake or a typhoon intake. Any suggestions? Also, what would a possible good shift point be at? street heat is idle-5500, track heat is 1500-6500. Should I look for something like that with an rpm range going up to 6500, or is 5500 good enough? I really don't know how this setup will be.

Actually, I think the cam says 1800-5800.

So what would you recommend, cobra? typhoon? track heat? etc etc

honestly I would want to know what your long term plans are. are you planning on bigger better heads down the road, or do you feel like you have a pretty solid keeper for awhile? if planning for another set of heads probably the track heat, if you like what you have then I would suggest the street heat. the typhoon is supposedly a good intake but I haven't had that one, I have had the edelbrock performer though and it was good to my setup with my 306 which was similar to yours except that I had a b cam and p&p gt40 heads and a few other small changes compared to yours. any or all of those intakes are good and if you want down the road you can port them and be better off. at this point I would say try to get one used and whichever one you can get the best price on would be cool. Id probably go street heat first choice, track heat, typhoon and cobra last but thats just my opinion.

I do have future plans for it, but this setup is going to be on the car for a while(college budget). Plus before I went more into the engine, I planned on doing suspension.

So you are saying any of them would be a good choice, just see what I can get the cheapest? Thats what I was thinking, seeing as I am on a tight budget.

Any other thoughts/comments?

I do plan on going used though, so hopefully I can get a good price on one of them. I am just wondering if you guys would pick one over the others.
 
Holley Systemax II

What about the Holley intake? I thought that was "hot" intake to have on a 5.0 in recent years especially if you have a power adder.
 
For long term I'm with Nostalgia. GT-40 upper and lower. It'll work the best I think, with what you've got. If you plan to install a Centrigal SC in the next year or so my next choice would be the Holley then the Trick flow. If you plan to 'ever' add a Kenne Bell SC then it's GT-40 upper and lower and it doesn't matter how long you plan to wait for the SC. Even the 331 will benefit from the GT-40 Lower. In a nut shell.... think down the road and decide what you want to do so you can avoid having to buy the intake more than once. :)

actually the 331 will be chocked up by the gt40 lower. I have the cobra intake which has the same gt40 lower and mine is ported and still holding back my numbers.

If you can get the gt40 intake relatively cheap then ok, but it isn't that much better to justify the price difference when you are on your type of budget. Trust me, I am on the same budget as a full time student living on my GI Bill.

The Trick Flow's are better intakes and although it is always great and proper to try to think ahead to the other future mods, on your budget you should go with the best intake that you can for the bucks, used. In another year you can always sell that intake and throw in another 100 and get a better intake.

The Holley intake is too much for your setup at this point, plus even used it cost at least 100more than the street heat or cobra intake. Those sell all the time for 350-400. If I already had my RPM II or Victor intake I would sell you my cobra. If you can find a used performer intake it will still benefit you more than the cobra too or gt40.

like the frpp cams, the intakes are still great but there are much better ones on the market now.
 
My opinion is the Edelbrock RPM if you have the cash or the Typhoon if cost is a factor, you can make good use of the flow and will not have to move up when it's required. Both of these flow lots and work great from 1500-6000 rpm.
 
When I say future plans, I am talking like years from now when I am out of school and can afford it. So I am not really looking into the future right now. I am looking into what would be the best for what I have right now.

I am really not looking into getting a holley. Too overkill. Thats why I am wondering if a track heat or performer rpm would be overkill. I don't want to spend the money and be dissapointed.

p.s. DMAN302-Do you have the xe270hr installed right now? If so, how do you like it? Where do you feel the power(or lack of) at?

Actually the GT-40 lower reference was in conjunction with the Kenne Bell SC. Meaning that the GT-40 upper and lower would be great for the current setup and the GT-40 lower with the Kenne Bell would still be the intake of choice for the 331. I should have been clearer. :)
 
I can't say just yet about performance because the engine is finishing assembly on the 18th and I will be droping her in on the 20th. I can tell you the engine builder asked me what cam I thought was best, and after reviewing the specs he called me and told me I had made a fine choice. I value his opion quite a bit so with that I think it's safe to say both you and I should be very pleased with the power curve it provides and drivability/idle. I will update you if you want when I can. I think you need to consider the Edelbrock intake judging by your combo your not afraid to spend a little cash on your car so I can definately see you updating your heads sooner than you think due to power hunger. Just remember the aftermarket heads will most often run well to 6000 rpm and you may find yourself needing a better flowing intake later on. Just my .02$
 
Yeah, definitely lat me know how it is when you get it running Dman. I probably won't be able to install all the parts till Thanksgiving or Christmas break. Keep me informed.

Just checking, but I just got a great deal on a Holley Systemax intake with a 1" spacer. Even with the spacer it's still going to be too much intake isn't it? I just wanted to double check.

One thing to keep in mind if your on a budget like i was is, if you end up going
with a cobra intake like i did you will save some cash. Because you dont need to buy the egr spacer its built in to the intake already. Plus if you ever want
more flow you could go with the GT-40 upper and not have to buy the lower,
as the cobra lower is the same part. For what my setup is now im happy with
the intake, thats my $.2cts.
