Is it better to remove all fenders, doors and valances to finish removing paint and then preping them for paint?

I have most of the top coat gone, but what I read I should remove them to do all the work to each individual pannel, I don't know which would be easier?

Thanks

That's the way the pros do it. They remove them and paint them off of the car.

I plan on taking my car apart to paint the engine bay, underside of the hood and trunk, door jambs, edges of fenders and other body panels. Then I am going to reassemble the car before I paint the body; don't want body parts that don't match!

I have to warn you, Its going to be a living bitch to get the body panels back on without scratching them.

Then its another pita to get them lined up again.

My 66 GT is in need of paint allso. It is silver frost which is bad ass but the florida sun riped a few holes and they're starting to get a little rusty. Not good. My advice to you is if your going to do anything to your classic do it right. I have no rims and a paint job thats starting to go down hill but only cause I want the best and Im not gonna put cheap rims or a cheap piant job on her. This Is normaly how projects get abandoned but you seem happy to own a classic allmost as much as I do

Since your question is: "which is easier", the answer is to leave everything assembled. Lining up doors, fenders and hood may be more of a hassle than you bargained for.

Taking everything apart is the "right way", though doing most of the stripping with the parts on the car is easier.

If you do take it apart, take lots of digital pictures. Bag and label the hardware as you go.

Warning: Once you start taking things apart, it's hard to stop.
