I am in the market for some new rubber.
But i need YOUR "EXPERT" Advice. And advice from those that actually have either tire..

I am looking at getting either the 245/40-17 Kumho ECSTA MX tires or the 245/40-17 Kumho SUPRA 712.

The MX is $134
The SUPRA 712 are ONLY $104.

Should i just get the cheaper ones???? Or are the MX's a MUCH better choice?

Keep in mind that i DO race my car up at the strip....so I will need a tire with better traction than the Stock goodyears......

OH and dont tell me to get the NITTOS or BFG's they are way to out of my budget...

I have the 712's. They are kinda loud, but offer decent wet/dry traction. I would not use them for drag racing. I have never had the Nittos, but I'm sure you would be better off using those when running the 1/4 mile.

I recommend: Sumitomo HTRZ II 245/45-17

Make sure that you get 245/45's NOT 245/40's. The 40's are the wrong tire diameter. They are about 1" smaller in diamter, and that will look like crap on your car.

I have the Sumitomos in 18's, and they are a great tire for the price. They are 10x better in both handling and traction than the Kumho ECSTA Supra 712's that I had.

The Yokohama AVS ES100 is an other great in that price range.

My .02..Stay away from Kumho's. I had sidewall failure and know many people that have had the same problem. Also they dont wear very good at all and the traction sucks!

I had the Kumho MX's on my 98 GT and I will say that they are the loudest riding tire ever. They get good wet/dry traction, but if you're going to race at the strip these would be a NO NO!!!

i have the 712's in 275/40/17. they're alright for traction, i can't compare to the stock since they were 16".

they suck at the drag strip

I don't know I have the MX's on my blown Stang and they grip fairly well considering.

I would advise against the mx's or the 712's with the winter months coming. Those tires are made for warm weather climates and require summer temperatures to operate like they should. Especially like a nitto drag radial. A nitto drag radial in the winter on dry pavement is like trying to race in the rain. Since I've learned the hardway about tires. I have since just went with the Khumo ASX's in 275/40/17. Very pleased with them. But if you get the mx's or the 712's and winter approaching be ready for a car that won't hook on dry pavement.

I had both 712's and MX's... Neither of them even closely compare to my BFG D/R's, but we all know that. the MX's are a noticably better tire, but I wouldn't recommend either. I can only compare the quality of rubber to hard plastic in both summer and winter applications. But, that is with my setup. If you have less HP, you obviously don't need as much stick..

I am putting down 350+ rwhp and have the 712's. I have no problems with these tires. I do have 285/40's so that may help. When I was n/a, I cut 2.0's with them all day long and I was still learning to drive.

I've got the supras and I think they are Ok as far as traction, but I also have the 275s.

I do not think they will last long though, they are pretty soft. I have launched the gatorbacks and these, I think they hook much better.
