Which Muffler Whould You Pick?

Im going to put a new exhaust on my 65 mustang and want a muffler with a deep sound but not loud. which one would you pick?

magnaflow is my choice. i have never liked the sound of flowmasters.

i have spintechs on my 351 ,they have a nice rumble to them and not to loud
i agree with rbohm flowmasters are to loud for me . borlas have a nice sound also

I like the Magnaflow sound better than Flowmaster. That being said, I highly suggest that you click on the Magnaflow link above, determine whether you want a 2 1/2" or 3" system and contact the moderators of this forum about pricing. I don't know all the specifics, but Stangnet has some kind of deal/affiliation with Magnaflow and the final price is VERY, VERY attractive. I'm sure that prices have changed in the several years since I got my system, but at the time, the best sale price was $600-ish and with the Stangnet discount it came to my door for $425! Their stuff is very well made and fits extremely well. My only real comment, neither good/bad, is that while I really like the sound/tone of the mufflers, the X-pipe crossover gives the overall sound more of a "modern" character that is kind of hard to explain, sort of a smoothness to the tone. I believe that the Administrator that deals with this is user name "Slapyo"

Deep and quiet.....large diameter, Dynomax Turbo's....no question. The other two are going to give you measurable amounts of exhaust drone, without a doubt. The Turbo's are probably some of the best mufflers to reduce exhaust drone. Going with a larger diameter exhaust components (2.3-3") will give you that deeper tone you're looking for.

I'm with rbohm, horse sence, and horseballz, I don't like the flowmaster sound. I used to run dynomax turbo's on all my stuff till they did away with their lifetime warranty-their stuff rusts out too fast. Bought the magnaflow system for my stang, and have a 3" magnaflow system on my f150, LOVE IT...

Dynomax, Magnaflow, Borla or Bassani. I hate flowmasters and never really liked my spintechs, they got replaced pretty quickly.

i think it matters what type headers you have as to the tone of the muflers.
i have headman long tube headers .long tubes seem to give a deeper tone than the shorty headers. the spintechs didnt sound all that great on the short headers ,but sound real good on the long. an x pipe or a cross over pipe will change the tone as well

The whole system only flows as well as the most restrictive component. Borla and Spintech flow well. Flowmasters don't. Don't know about the others. I'll go Borla next time I need mufflers.

In comparison to Borla's or Spintech's....no, the Flowmasters won't match the flow potential, but they're still more than capable of suporting the horsepower levels of your average bolt on car. And they certainly outflow anything OEM.

I must be the Lone Ranger here, because I actually love Flowmasters. Having said that, I don't have them on my car, I have some no-name turbos and they walk the line between healthy sounding and liveable quite nicely. My wife's Corvette has Flowmaster 50's on it and they sound wonderful (to only me apparently) both at idle and on the gas.

50's have a nicer sound than the 40's and not quite as loud ,had the 50s on a 66 ford truck with a 289 and it sounded decent

I'm partial to the magnaflow as well, but then I also like the sound of glass packs still. Lots of audio clips on you tube! My link in my signature also has an audio clip of the magnaflows in my 68 Cougar.

I had flowmaster 50 series on my 347 and they sounded great. Nice rumble with no drone. Also had a dr gas x pipe.

Get the shortest glasspacks you can find (2.5 inch) then some welded 2.5 inch turbo mufflers. No drone and great sound and flow.

I have dynamax turbos on my fairly stock 289 (manifolds, no headers). They are VERY quiet. I'd actually like something a little beefier sounding. Maybe I should get headers!

I've always liked flowmasters, to me they have a nice sound. I went with 50 series delta flows on my 67 coupe 289 and it sounds great.

If you don't need a real performance muffler then I'd go with a Walker/Dynomax Turbo.
