Hi guys for long time I didn't enter the forums. I am deciding to buy GT 2006 or Mach1 2004. How is GT 06 power comparing to Mach1? Which one is more powerful and can see the difference in power with mods?

I sold an '04 Mach 1 to buy my '06 GT, so I've owned both.

This is my opinion and I'll keep it short to risk being flamed by Mach 1 owners, but my 2 cents is this: I do not regret the switch at all. Not one time since September have I ever wished that I had the Mach back. The Mach is a great car, no doubts. I really enjoyed that car and thought that I would miss it more than I do; but that's the testament to the new car: in my opinion its so much different & better that for me they're not in the same league.

Get the new car, you won't be disappointed. Its a great platform to build on, too.

03/04 Mach's are a bit more special, in my opinion, whereas the GT will become just another GT after the novelty is gone.

Wow, I agree with both views above. I've owned both and where I think the S197 is the better of the two on all accounts I still wish sometimes that I had the Mach 1 because of how rare they will be in the future years.

So... If you are going to buy to keep, go with the Mach 1, if you're going to buy and flip in later years like most of us than go with the GT.

Power wise, stock the same.. (Bring on the flames)

Here is the Mach that I traded in , and the S197 that i traded for.

I'd take that Mach (above) in a second.

Thanks, it's amazing what a few thousand dollars in parts and paint can do. I was pretty happy with the way that one turned out. I called it the Newman special because everything on it was purchased through a long time friend and Ford parts dealer. Everything on it was Ford or Saleen that could be purchased through Ford with the exception of the badges and I also had the Autometer gauge cluster.

Overall, 05 / 06 GT is a better car than the Mach. More practicle, more comfortable, better riding, better ergonomics and better handling. (Mach 1 guys don't even try to argue this, the ONLY SN-95 Mustang that handles better than a S-197 GT is the 2000 Cobra R).

The 03/04 Mach is more unique, but with almost 17,000 of them built you're dreaming if you think they will appreaciate anytime soon. The Mach is probably the best all around SN-95 Mustang, but since the SN-95 is at heart a 27 year old design, that's not saying a lot. Bone stock to bone stock the Mach 1 is slightly faster in acceleration.

My vote is for the 06 GT.

If you have the patience, wait a year or two until a Mach1 is built on the new platform. Personally, I like both cars but I'd take the S197 over the Mach1. The Mach looks good, but the new platform is just way better looking in my opinion.

i like speed and mach owns the 05-06. even though i think the 05-06 look great they are just another GT and i wouldnt buy just another Gt again, im waiting for a mach1 s197, i doubt ill be able to afford the new cobra when it comes out, id also look at an 03-04 saleen. or cobra. the cobra will desimate the 05-06 GT. im not impressed with the new GT, i love how it looks but im really dissapointed by the performance, its not very fast, i was all ready to buy one when they came out, but im going to hold out for a special edition upgraded one of some sort. but they are very nice though, and have a really nice interior.

it really depends, the mach 1 is going to have a much better resale if you keep the milage low. its a faster car. but if youre going for looks i think the mustang is really nice. like it was said above id wait until ford comes out with a new mach. you dont want just another plain GT. im holding out for a mach. i dont want another GT that i have to mod to run with some special edition mustang.

05-06 is just another GT, youre going to wish you held out for a faster special edition type mustang. im holding out, even though the temptation is great to get a 06. i just know ill kick myself in the butt when ford comes out with a mach or whatever then ill be stuck with a plain GT, which honestly just doesnt cut it anymore.

a "plain" GT doesn't cut it anymore? give me a break. the car is fast and fun to drive. the difference in performance between the 05/06 and the Mach1 is marginal.

"owns", yea I don’t think so the Sn 197 is light years ahead of the 99+ cars in all aspects.

From the owner of a 2000 GT and a 2005 GT: Get the new GT. The new platform is much better as a daily driver, to the point that it doesn't matter that the Mach 1 is faster.

Also, if you're looking for exclusivity, you're looking at the wrong car to begin with. What makes Mustangs so great is that they offer good performance, styling, reliability and affordability to so many people. With the exception of the Shelby, plenty of other people are going to own whatever Mustang package you decide on. It's a GOOD thing that so many people want to, and can, own them.

Let's not overlook here the fact that the S197 platform is a better handling car, right from the factory.

Styling, Handling and Power /// the new generation Mustang has it all !!

The Mach may have a better engine, but the rest is 1970s technology. I say go for the 21st century tech. You'll live longer.
