I recently disassembled my engine. It is a 302 that has been over bored 0.030" and it has a 347 stroker kit in it. When the piston rings were installed the rings were part of a kit. Unfortunately there is no documentation on which rings came with the kit other than "Race Rings". Summit racing offers rings that will work that ranges from 75$ to $200. That's a large gap. I don't want to waste money on rings that are meant for a better engine and I don't want to get cheep rings that will damage my engine. I intend on using a mild amount of nitrous. This will be a street (occasional strip) car. What piston rings do you guys recommend?

Ive done some research and it looks like here are my options. Iron or Cast Iron rings coated with either a chromemoly, plasma-moly, or no coating at all. So which is better? Iron or cast iron? Also, what is chromemoly and plasma-moly coatings? which would be best for Nitrous?

Thanks for any info,

The Plasma-moly coated top rings, and iron second rings seem to be the most popular for all-around engines.

The top rings wear out first no matter what, so they usually get a 'special treatment'...

I beilieve the nitride rings are pretty nice if I recall

Are you using the 1.090" piston? If so, you will need a oil support ring.

Go with a Cast or Plasma Moly ring stay away from Chromoly rings they have to long a seat time for me. The Speed Pro Plasma works well!

I agree there, stay with a good plasma moly top. Look at the Total Seals, and if you want a little more street life go with the HR series it will have a little more oil ring tension the the low tension sets...but not near the standard ring. I use Perfect Circles, Total Seals, and some Spreed Pro in my street engines... File to fit is the best option, if you do not know how to properly file rings, have them done by a professional. Make sure you get the pistons cleaned or clean them really well, the ring grooves have to be cleaned. Make sure you get the proper size rings to match your piston, you can re-use your support rails as long as they are not damaged which they shouldn't be.

Fullauto, Hellfires in a street car?? A little extreme unless you have a ton of boost or juice.
