I got to do some engine work and I'm trying to figure which cam is the best to use in my SD girl. I have both a Comp Cams 264HR and a Crower 15511; I'm using the stock DA1 computer and I'm looking for everyone's wise input to lean in the right direction.

I don't think anyone has done that in 30 years.

What’s the rest of the combo?

I might suggest a mass air swap, and then you have more options

Do a set of 1.72 RRs instead. Will drive and idle like stock but make more power.

Changing the duration of the cam is what affects SD

Will the stock springs handle the 1.7's or I need to upgrade?

Provided you don’t have 300k miles on them, they will handle it

This cam from Isky was specifically-made for speed-density cars. http://iskycams.com/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=1150 There may be better options out there by now, but it was state of the art about 20-25 years ago. I can state from experience that it worked well in a California-smog-legal 302 with Y303 heads and a Cobra intake, I got to drive the car it was in and watch a dyno pull where it made 275rwhp through an AOD with full smog gear at World Ford Challenge 6 in 2003.

I like the specs on that cam; the Comp 264 is .512 and I'm worried about the piston to valve clearance and the 15511 on the list I'm not sure if it'll act right idling if the 87 I saw on YouTube is a indicator of drivability.

My goal is to push SD to it's limits without going to MS if possible; with my rear upgrade I'm anticipating having a decent little project restomod.
