I've seen/searched for a dual fan to use w/ my Vortech installed LX. Everyone is saying use a 95 Taurus fan, but everywhere I search a Taurus fan for '95 is a single unit. What's the skinny here? Am using a DCC controller also.
I of course bought a used one, and you should be able to also, since the auction lists its applications. It fits the Mustang radiator core almost perfectly, and stays in with through-the-core ties. You have a DCC, so I guess you have all the wiring and stuff figured out already then. This fan needs a 60A maxifuse or circuit breaker to run.
I don't think that the Volvo fan is going to work. I attempted to use a single Mark 8 fan and it hit the lower pulley. I have a Vortech w/ the extended front pulley, necessitating the use of a dual smaller fan.
Hmm, I guess it depends on the radiator you are using. I have 1-5/8" of clearance (fan to water pump pulley bolts) and 3" of clearance (fan to crank pulley). But of course I have a tiny (1-1/4" core) radiator. Pics:
Oh I see. Well for a stock setup, it's a nice fan + shroud. I know that all 96-up Tauruses had dual fans... but they aren't attached to each other as would be needed to mount them on a Mustang. I think the 94-95 Taurus 3.0 MAY have had dual fans, not sure though. I would suggest looking at a Contour 2.0L and see if those fans will work...
Michael Yount (don't think he's posted in a while) has a spal dual fan setup on his volvo 5.0. I googled and found the dimensions for you:
11" Dual High Performance Fan Assembly. Overall Housing Dimensions are 16.26" tall X 23.46" wide. The fan depth is 4.25". 2780 CFM rating at 12 volts.
Information courtesy of http://www.prchotrod.com/products/spal. I cannot say whether they're a reputable seller or not since I've had no dealings with them.
I run a fan from a 93 taurus 3.8L. At the thickest point, it's ~5 inches. I have mine mounted upside down (compared to stock taurus mounting) and it BARELY clears the water pulley by going a little under where the water pump snout sticks out. I have a 2 core 1 1/4" radiator. My clearance from my crank pulley to the fan is 2" (measured from the closest point of the fan that would touch the pulley first).
Thanks for all the responses. I have a pic showing my dilemma. I looked at the Spal fan and at close to $400 just for the fan, I have to say no to it. Going to see if I can get a closer up pic.
Did you take a look at the 33212, I can either install the controller that you already have on it, or I can give you the part numbers for what you need and enough docomentation for you to build it there
Brian, Thanks for chiming in. You may remember me as I bought the Mark 8 fan and controller from you 2 years ago and it didn't fit. You stepped up to the plate and hit a homer IMO w/ your CS. Thanks. Am now ready to do it again as fan clutch finally took a dump. As you can see by my pic, I'm extremely limited w/ space. What fan is yours from? Looks like it may be a SVT Contour fan. I have ordered the controller, (not yet received) but may consider your fan/controller if the price is right. I think I may need to do more measuring though. Any thoughts?
I temember, that's why I responded to the thread. It is the contour fan and the factory ones that I use are pretty expensive, but they also sell replacements that are quite a bit cheaper. The quality of the replacement fans isn''t as high as the factory ones, but they're typically better than most of the aftermarket (retrofit) fans that are sold, as long as you buy the higher end replacement. I see used ones on ebay every once in a while also
It is a single fan but moves more air then the double. I dident get a DCC cost to much for now. I went to local parts store and bought a controler and relay and fuse for about 30 bucks. Fan comes on at about 170 and after i turn off the car it runs for about 2 min then turns off. Some day i will buy a DCC so i can run the fan on high but for now low is working fine car stays at about 180-190.
Why not trim down the shroud on the taurus fan? I had to do that to make it fit in my car. It was still a very close fit but if it fit in mine im sure you could do it also. I have a BDS blower and 4" between the belt and radiator and it fits.
Brian, Is it possible to send those plans you mentioned? I found a brand new fan for a Contour at a really good price. I am going to run A/C and would like to have both speeds on fan. Wire sizes would help too. Thanks again for all your help.
