In the near future I'm planning to get a new tranny/clutch as the factory T-5/clutch in my car just are not cutting it. My clutch is pretty much fried and the 2nd gear syncros are pretty bad. My question is, which would be the best tranny for my situation? I want to get a centerforce DF clutch, but need to decide on a trans. I seem to be slowly edging towards a world class T-5, but am unsure as to how long it will last under my combo (see sig). Should I go the tremec route, gforce T-5, or T-5z???

G force or tremec tko 500 with the 26 spline input shaft option. I have a fms HD blueprinted pressure plate and a mcleod dual friction disk. The pp is modified by promotion.

They do.

Some people mistake the t5z for a world class. The t5z is a waste of time and money.

Oh, I thought the world class and t-5 were the same thing. Why is the t-5z a waste of time and money? My friend has been running one for the passed 2 years in his car with a centerforce DF clutch and he loves it. He has pretty much the same combo as me... That's what is leading me to get a T-5z.

The "Z" tranny is only a waste of time when you run sticky tires which shocks it into an early grave. They last quite a while when you run street tires and n/a. I like the Z personally because it gives you back first gear (2.95 vs 3.35) when you have lower gears in the diff ... plus the taller OD (.63 vs .68) lowers your highway rpms as well :nice:

The 500 is of course a stronger (and heavier) tranny, but makes a little more noise too.

At your power level there isn't a need for a real stout gearbox ... if in the future you plan on dumpin' a lot of torque into it, then the 500 might be the way to go for you ... after all it saves money to buy the right part the first time.

Because for not too much more you can get a real tranny. A t5z is what, over $1000 right? I'm not sure exactly I could be wrong. The whole point of upgrading your trans is to put something GOOD in that can handle real power. A t5z is a waste of money kinda like a sportsmen block is a waste of money and barely better than a stock block. Follow?

I can't justify buying a bellhousing, shifter, different driveshaft yoke to go the TKO route. If I were to spend that much money it'd definitly be G-Force. But if you have a tired old stock T-5, going to the T-5Z is going to be a big improvement....it's just the guy that powershift and launch at 4000+rpm that destroy them.
