which Tremec directly replaces the T5Z

So are the "old" t5's (borg warner) any different than the tremec t5's? Different bearings? Gear material? Etc...

I would assume they might make little changes as the years go on. I can't imagine the 1987 tranny (new) woudl be as good as one made today. Besides the tranny year differences.

I'm sure the "tremecs" are slightly revised. Just because the market tends to better itself often.

You would think that, but the T-5 is pretty much the same as it was back in 1985 when the WC T-5 came out.

Differences? Not much. A reverse synchro was added in 93, and in 98 the V6 recieved the 3.35 gearset from the 90-95 5.0's rated at 300 ft-lbs. That gearset continues today. In 2005, the T-5 was modified for a hydraulic clutch setup. I beleive an electric speed was added in 99 or around then and for 2005 the shifter mount setup was changed.

Internals weren't upgraded because The T-5 lives fine behind a V6 engine with less torque

Other that that, it's the same basic trans. A good chunk of parts from a 2006 V6 could be used in the 90-93 V8 trans.
