Which way for Oil Pump Shaft

Which way do I put the oil pump shaft in? Pointy/star washer up or down?

You bumped your post after only being in the forums for less than 1/2 hour? Yikes.

The "washer" aka. the oil pump driveshaft "stop" should be towards the distributor. You want it to be against the roof of the crankcase.

Uh ohh. So the stop "washer" on the shaft goes on the top side by the distributor, and not on the bottom by the pump? Basically drop it in the way it is in his picture? Would you say it's dangerous to have it the other way? I think mine may be upside down.

Thanks, I bumped it early just because I was trying to get the bottom end and exhaust put back together yesterday.

You want it by the distributor, so if you have to pull the distributor out, you're not yanking the oil pan to put the pump driveshaft back in. They'll usually come out of the pump with the dizzy and fall down into the pan if they're in the wrong way, or the retaining washer isn't in place.

the way you have it facing in the pic is the way it should be dropped in.

I wouldn't want it the wrong way, I'd be worried every time I needed to pull the distributor for anything that the pump drive shaft would fall into the oil pan.

Very sorry for the slight jack of the your thread. So if mine is in upside down would I have to pull the oil pan to make it right? Or, should I just go with it the way it is, and if I have to pull the distributor just be very very careful. Again, sorry for the jack.

another ?...can the shaft be pulled out from the dizzy hole or would you need to drop the pan
