Which would you buy?

A 98 GT 5 speed with 94k from a used car dealership, with exhaust, intake, short throw, racing seats, and rear seat delete. $7995, not sure about negotiating the price.

...or...

A 2000 GT with 91k, 5 speed, intake only for 9k firm.

Both run and look great, both are 5 speeds... but the extra grand for two years and a PI 4.6 seems worth it, unless the 98 can be taken down a bit in price. What do you guys think? I really, really want a Mustang soon and people are starting to sell them for more and more. I stopped by a dealer with a 2000 GT, pretty much equal to the above, and they want 14 grand for it..:lol: Another place had a 94 GT with around 80k on it, but it wasnt optioned out and they want 9k... damn.

Im sorry, I know I only post about "Is this a good deal?" or a thread like this, but I have a HUGE passion for Mustangs, either 5.0, 4.6, or classics. Just looking for some good advice. I may end up holding out, but im scared that prices will just keep on climbing.

I really like the 2000, but would get the 98 if the price is negotiable by about a grand or more...
 
Those seem a bit pricey to me. Paid 10,500 for my 5spd 2000 GT about 6 months ago with only 40k miles. It was fully loaded with 18" Chrome Cobra R's, springs, shocks/struts, LCA's, STB, c/c plates, and Alpine head unit w/ XM radio receiver.
Just hold out for a better deal. It'll happen, trust me

I thought so too, about a year and a few months ago I started thinking that... lol.

People keep jacking the prices up cause they know they will sell... What do you think about buying it, if it ends up costing too much just re-selling it?
 
What do you guys think a fair price for either one would be?

I offered the guy around 8k for the 2000, but he said he needed right near 9, but I didnt put money on the table or anything yet... I think 78-8000 sounds right for the 2000.

For the 98 I think around 65-6800 is about right... but im pretty sure he wont go that far down.

I usually go by NADA, KBB is high most of the time in my opinion.

NADA put the 2000 around 10.5k sale, 8500 avg. trade in.

The 98 comes in between 6700-8900 depending on shape. There are a few minor things with the 98, so id say somewhere in the middle according to NADA.

KBB says... 8000 for the 98, and hmm... damn, 7900 for the 2000. That doesnt seem right. I guess there is a big difference between dealer and private party.

I guess KBB isnt higher.
 
i would shoot for a lower price but i would go with the 2000. do you really wanna switch over all the PI crap? and if you can afford it, look for an 02 with the 3650. there was a guy on here looking at a 2002 last week and he thought he could get it for 11750. so if you can spend that, look for a little newer one. there are some body stylings with the 2000 that are not so desireable IMO.
 
Yeah Im leaning towards the 2000 also, I guess I will see whats what tomarrow and if hes really dead set on 9k. It does have the newer style hood scoop though, so thats a plus. The normal 99-2000 hoods dont appeal to me without the scoop.

3650... is that the trans? This one should have the T-45..?

And for switching over the PI stuff on the 98... I rather not spend the extra money, but if I did then I would go balls out and get some better heads than stock PI's and a set of cams to match.

SC... not much around. I could spend two days where my brother used to live in FL and find 10 Mustangs by the time I found one or two here within 6 months to a year. It sucks, thats why I want to nab something soon.

Heres a few of the suck ass deals for Mustangs ive seen for sale.

98 GT 130k, needed throw out bearing and the leather was torn up inside... 10k

96 GT 130k, new intake manifold (old one cracked) installed wrong, car ran like ass when any load was on the engine, cracked bumper, and rough interior... $4500

94 GT 85k, not alot of options... 9k

91 5.0 notch, interior was shot to hell, engine had AC and smog literally ripped out for more power, body was decent, any minor problem possible was wrong... $2000

96 GT 90k, 6900... but it was an auto, I want a 5 speed.

93 GT around 90k, car ran great, interior was perfect, but the clearcoat was coming off in a few too many spots... $8400

96 GT with 50k on the odo, but it had broken. It had primer spots all over it, and the trunk had been fabbed up for a monster system. Car made way too many noises and had a few too many leaks to actually have 50k on it.. 6500 for that one.

Everything is so damn overpriced it sucks. Best deal I could have gotten was either a 95 GT with 85k on it for 5800, loaded with options... or a 94 GT with less options for 4800 bucks. They were both within a week of eachother, I had made an offer on the 95 and they didnt take it, so I looked at the 94. They sold the 95 a few days later, and I went back for the 94 and it had just sold. Aside from that ive been out of luck,
 
I check auto trader constantly but most of the good ones are out of my range in $, or range to go pick it up. I greatly appreciate it though. What he is asking is about the most I can shell out for a car right now, less is better.
 
ok. i hear ya. just thought i would see what was out there for ya. but i will tell you one thing, you are in a high priced area. i checked my area SW VA and there are average priced ones where yours seem to be overpriced in SC. see if theres anything close on ebay.

I agree 100% with that. Everyone on here keeps talking about all these good deals they get in different states and whatnot. Im left shaking my head in dis-belief, but then I go check autotrader in their area and im amazed.

Get a 2000 and save your money. A hood scoop is like 200 bucks and the 99-00 spoiler looks the best when moved back (IMO). Also, don't get an 01+ just for the 3650, the T-45 is just as good and they both have their issues. Honestly, the T-45 seems to have less problems and also the 99-00 GT's had the windsor block, which i believe is a bit stronger. Also, no need to turn traction control off everytime you get in the car either.
I've had both a 99GT and 00GT, both bought with very low miles. The 99GT was bought in April of 2003 and only had like 27k miles. My current GT had 40k when i bought it. I figure why spend an extra few grand for an 01-02 GT with the same mileage when i can have the same car with the same mileage for less.
Basically what im saying is don't go out looking for an 01+ GT thinking its any better than a 1999 or 2000.
